I caught some of the Michigan/Iowa game on BTN replay and thought Michigan was a good team, but very beatable. Iowa doesn't really have anyone on offense that scares anyone (save their one TE) and their OL is poor. Michigan has a stud RB in Blake Corum but their LBs have been exposed in pass coverage. I don't know if what match-ups look like yet but I don't see a massive gap in talent. Anyone with more insight or thoughts? Indiana has a bad loss to Nebraska but some solid wins - could be overlooked by UM this week.....

Stack the box, stop the run and make them pass lots.

Several things, some of them mentioned in posts already. First we have to be able to run the ball well enough to have them respect the play action. I think the Oline has developed enough to get this done along with our RBs. Mentioned above Michigan LBs are a weakness I would expect Strange to have a big game and Johnson/Warren. I think we see a good chunk of at least 2 TE's on the field to power the run game and force them to respect the run as well as send them into pass routes. Defensively as mentioned force them to pass. DBs are our strength. Leave them out there 1 on 1 and sell out to stop the run until they prove they can beat us over the top. Corum is a legit RB and tough to bring down. The other things already mentioned SC. He is the wild card. He is due for a big game against a big time opponent, with that goes TOs. PSU cannot fumble or throw INTs. Glad we have a very good punter that will be needed for the next 3 games as PSU runs the gauntlet. Not sure if Allar will get any reps, my guess is they have it planned but wait to see how the game plays out.

Thoughts: I hate Michigan, Bo and his five finger doctor, their smuga$$ fans who routinely know nothing about college football, their overrated history, their half a championship in the modern age, Ann Arbor, Robert McNamara, their weather, their towns, their uniforms, did I mention their smuga$$ness?, their crappy stadium, the overblown rivalry with O$U, their booger eating coach, Gerald Ford, Mushmouf and Mrs. Mushmouf and their somnolent offense (wake me up when our game with them is over) and their alumni whom I would never hire due to their smugga$$ness.

Edit: Now I have to hate Michael Phelps, the greatest swimmer of all time to the list of things I hate. They made him the honorary captain for a school that he did not graduate from and didn't compete for because he was a pro swimmer at the time? But he used their pool? WTF? That is so freakin' Michigan Bougie its not even funny.

I also have to add Lloyd 'I'm a bitter, classless soul' Carr who garned 1/2 a championship and ignored the five finger doc for 20 years too. Let's honor him at halftime! With what? A tunnel named after him -- read into that distinction/image what you will.

That sums up my early thoughts @Midnighter. I'll be back later to tell you how I really feel.

One of the great things about having the Big Ten on Fox/CBS is that it limits the number of times I have to hit mute for Mushmou.

Watch the Michigan vs Maryland game if you want to see the even more beatable Michigan team.

1. Contain Corum. He's going to get 20+ carrys. The key is does he have 100 yards or 175 yards at that point. Maryland give up 2 TDs to him (33, 47 yards) on 3rd and 2 type situations. One of which was 20 seconds til halftime.

2. The interesting thing about the clamor to play McCarthy over McNamara was that McCarthy was supposed to be this dangerous mobile guy with a better arm and really he hasn't been used that way yet. 220 yards passing and 5 yards rushing vs Maryland, 155 and -14 vs Iowa. He is near 80% accurate for the year.

3. Their defense is similar to ours. Better in some areas, less than last year's in others. They are #7 in total defense, but what shocked me is Purdue is #25, Auburn #35. We've been better on 3rd downs than they have and in turnover margin, but they have an edge in sacks.

I'd feel better playing this game at home, but we've been in 2 tough road games already. If I had to set this game on anything, it probably boils down to Sean Clifford.

Maryland made it a game after their dreadful fumble on the opening kickoff in Michigan Stadium. I’m optimistic, but much of this is based on my belief that SC is due for a good game. Make of this what you wish.

Maryland was down 7-0 before the whistle blew 3 times and still kept the game close. Between the 2 INTs (one of which should have been reviewed and reversed) and the back breaking Corum TD runs on 3rd and short, this was a game they let slip away.

Kudos to Michigan, they pounced on the opportunities. That's what good teams do.

I'm fearful of a PSU win. Without those who coach better than CJF and others that swear Cliff is worse than the Bubonic Plague
this place will be deserted.

Outstanding post. If only I could express my total contempt for ALL things U. of Michigan so well.

In fact, I despise them so much that I couldn't finish watching the movie Red Dawn, and I won't go into my feelings for one of the X-Men.:cool:

Simple. Boils down to this....

If the Penn State team that showed up against Auburn shows up, then Penn State will go 2-1 in the next 3 games.

If the Penn State team that showed up against Central Michigan or Northwestern shows up, Penn State will go 0-3 in the next 3 games.

End of analysis.

PSU defense must do three things:
--Prevent Corum from busting big runs
--Keep JJ McCarthy in he pocket
--Defend the pass in the middle of the field (i.e. no chunk plays down the middle)
PSU offense must:
--Receive excellent QB play from SC (no bad decisions/errant passes). He must play 4 consistent qtrs.
---Consistent running game with Allen/Lee inside and get Singleton loose on the edge.
--Utilize TEs more efficiently
--RT Wallace has to come up big in pass protection because UM will work his side all game.

Agree. Put the best players on the field. With KLS out, go with a lot of two TE sets run the ball and throw to the TEs a lot. On defense, put 8 in the box and force the QB to beat you with the great secondary who can cover one on one. Tighten up 3rd and long defense. Simple football and rely on your outstanding punter to flip field position. Low scoring game much like last year. MOV will be around 3-4 pts. Classic B1G matchup. LOS will be premium. No 80 yd drives.

Agree ... the other thing this does I didn't mention up above was on offense being able to run the ball some and controlled passes is it controls the time of possession and will take the crowd out of the game. Wear down their defense and keep our defense fresh.
