Hiring Richrod and Belein.

Listening to Dan Dakich on espn reminded me of this.

Re: Ed Pastilong was a moron who got lucky

EP was the consummate Mountaineer when he took the job. Everything he did, he believed to be in best interest of WVU.

I was not a fan of Ed Pastilong. I believe that if he were still our AD, we would still be in the AAC

I have no reason to believe he would not try to remove us from the failure.

As to his fiscal philosophy, it was something he had to live with. The budget was very thin while he was able to expand and live within his means. I like to see the expansion, but Eddie did not have resources available to go above what he did.

With 29 posts you shouldn't be calling a Mountaineer that served his university for many years...............a moron. You the Lil Moe Ron. Listening to Dan Dakich on espn reminded me of this. Warez

When the history of WVU sports is written ...

... Ed Pastilong will be remembered with great affection.

Calling him a "moron who got lucky" reminds me of Ronald Reagan's critics. At what point do you believe your lying eyes and give a man credit for his accomplishments?

Only morons call people morons

so I guess that makes me one.

Insulting people just isn't my game. Pastilong did good things for WVU, particularly in the earlier part of his tenure. But the world passed him by, as it does many of us. If you are standing still nowadays, you're falling behind.

Thank God for Oliver Luck, who arrived at the perfect time in WVU's history. Now I hope the current AD learned enough at Alabama to apply it in Morgantown, and beyond just bean-counting. You need visionaries to succeed in college football, in your career and in life. WVU got that with Mr. Luck.

Now, let's see if Huggins can get health Staten and Browne to join Devin Williams and scare the crap out of some hotshot teams in March Madness. WVU is NOT a team you want to play in the NCAAs, particularly if it's the second game of the week, which means you have only one day to prep for the ferocious all-game full-court press, which will return with the two guards back in action.

I thank Pastilong for his loyalty to my alma mater, which is a big thing with me, and Luck for the worldly business sense he acquired after graduating and brought to the AD job at WVU.

Is it really necessary to bash one of our own. Ed did one helluva job with the resouces and within the culture he had to operate in at the time. Not to mention he's a damn good guy and and true Mountaineer. You sir are neither.

I once saw an interview of Ed where he was asked about moving out of the Big East. I am paraphrasing of course, but basically he said, "...we are in the right place...we fit in the Big East".

The man simply had no vision. Does not mean he is a bad guy or not a true mountaineer...there are lots of us with no vision. I just happen to be one of the few that does.

good memory Sir..remember title IX caused a lot of schools to drop sports.. the WVU men's track team for one...WVU has over 600 athletes on some type of scholarship..most of the sports just bleed money.

Tall Mans.............you wrong. You ain't no moron. You a Lil Moe Ron. Big difference. Let's talk about the world. It's passing us all by. EP wasn't an island...................entire to himself. He was a piece of the continent ............. a part of the main! I'll tell you what that makes you. You a bean eater!

The Beilein hire by Fast Eddie Pasthisprime was a flustercuck from the get go. He passed over Beilein for Jockitch.

Not true. Beilein wasn't a candidate until after Dakich left. JB then contacted WVU and expressed interest. The rest is history.

No he didn't. Beilein was not available the way we needed him to be at that time. Do some homework before you post ******** in public.

Shut up punk. EP kept us in the black where he carried on after Schaus did the same. He upgraded facilities and did as much as he could with the money he had. I swear, does anyone know how to think for themselves or just pass the mimicry cup because someone drank from it too.

I don't blame you. If you handed me a knife, odds are I'd do it myself.

I promise to to never again connect any portion of your fine name to an idiot like that.

BTW..."besmirch" is a fantastic word.

Pastiong bungled Huggs hire then hired Dakich .. Hardesty hired Beilien ..

.. and Rich was basically forced on Pastilong, who didn't want to let go of Nehlen or Catlett.

Also Pastilong gets credit for football facility upgrades during his tenure. Ask Nehlen. Every time he wanted some improvements Ed said, sure you can have them IF YOU RAISE THE MONEY! So that's what Nehlen did. He had to do a lot of favors for that IPF. Bur you can be sure Ed was there at the ribbon cutting cermonies taking credit.

And during his tenure the Coliseum had NO UPGRADES whatsoever. Beilein & Huggs had to beg for those and basically again raise the money themselves.

Don't get me wrong. I liked Pastilong, but he was no Oliver Luck when it came to taking the lead in upgrading facilities and raising the money for them.

And don't forget about the Bill Stewart hire.

WVU had two very good coaches in both football and basketball while Pastilong was athletic director. Both of those coaches also left WVU while Pastilong was AD and I have to believe a great AD would have found a way to keep them. Getting Huggins probably saved WVU's basketball program but don't forget who he hired before Huggins accepted. The decision to hire Bill Stewart over Jimbo Fisher or Doc Holliday was a terrible decision and part of the reason WVU football is down now. Pastilong had the vision to see potential in Rich Rod and John Beilein but both were young and inexperienced head coaches. He took a shot with both and it paid off.

I will give credit to Pastilong for caring about West Virginia and WVU because I'm sure he did. I will also give him credit for taking a chance on two coaches who helped put WVU on the map.But just because he cared about WVU does not mean he always made the right choices or decisi

Pastilong knew how to hire a coach. He just didn't know how to hold on to a coach, and holding on to one is the important part....I mean, anyone can hire a coach.

I don't know where some of you get your information but it's not accurate. First, Beilein was not an inexperienced coach at the time he came to WVU. A coach you're talking about leaving I'm assuming was RR? He left because he wanted to. There was nothing short of tucking him in bed, allowing him to break rules at WVU and also allowing his agent to partly run WVU's AD department, that would have kept him at WVU. He thought he was too big for WVU and also couldn't take the heat he was getting for the pitt loss. That's a fact. Another thing about him is, how do so many people who support him and probably want him back continue to ignore the fact that he was almost out the door to Alabama the year before when he had White, Slaton and Reynaud for TWO more years and Schmidt for one more. That tells you all you need to know about RR and his intentions.

Fisher was locked into an almost iron-clad contract that I don't believe he could have gotten out of at FSU. And I don't know why you feel the need to give him credit because he cared for WVU. That doesn't make any sense. So did Luck and look at the mistakes he made, which are still being uncovered.
EP did more for WVU than he'll probably ever get credit for but go ahead and keep pushing the "drinking party into the night hire" rhetoric if it makes you people feel good.

Wrong. You don't know half the truth. But it's the free board so continue on as anything goes here.

he hired Bill Stewart, that is inexcusable. NOTHING about Bill suggested he'd be a good head coach. No OC/DC experience, and he failed miserable in his only previous head coaching gig.

.......and what is it that makes you think that Ed Pastilong was the one who hired Bill Stewart to replace Rich Rodriguez?

Re: Pastiong bungled Huggs hire then hired Dakich .. Hardesty hired Beilien ..

It was most of the major boosters such as Astorg, Alvarez, etc. that renegotiated when Rod was flirting with Bama and brought Huggs home. Eddie admitted himself he's not a good negotiator.

EP would make excuses about not having the cash. Ollie found a way to get it done. EP was not a good fundraiser. Ollie was an exceptional fundraiser and increased revenue.

? to all the EP lovers. Ken Kendrick said it best about the Ath Dept "A 40-50 mil operation is ran like a dry cleaning store" I understand EP was a fellow Mountie and former QB, but why were you satisfied with him or is it an inferiority complex?
