Edgy, why do you hate special teams?

I don't hate special teams (or bears) but I just get so tired of watching kids who add a special teams block or a non touchdown return to lead off a highlight video.....I mean if your a kicker or punter or even a long snapper it's fine. Or if you have a spectacular return for a touch down that's fine....otherwise keep the special teams off highlight video.

Why lots of specialties can show athleticism. I mean Julian Love averaged over 30 yards per return had about 8-10 returns over 50 yards, but only 2 touchdowns. He should exclude amazing returns?

It's better than putting on a hi lite of making a play while unblocked or catching a td when the db falls down. Colleges are looking for an athlete who has a variety of skills.

Edgy,

I'm ok with your opinion here if I can understand what the basis is? The only reason I challange it, is because most players at the next level and the professional level earn playing time at their primary position through performance on special teams. Thanks

When I do take the time to watch some of the highlights that get posted, I try to pay attention to the teams they are against. It is very telling when a players highlights include nothing vs the better teams on the schedule.

When your attempting to make a strong first impression for a position at the college level and have a limited window to make that impression, don't waste time. End of story. Totally fine if you disagree but after over 20 years of watching video and evaluating kids (and dealing with college coaches on a daily basis at literally every level of college football) I would hope that maybe this would have just a shred of credibility? Maybe? Just maybe?

Edgy,

I see what you're saying now, don't lead with it. In that case I completely agree, but I do believe that recruiting coaches want to see Special teams and in the cases of Skill players down field blocking for example(value added) later in the highlight. Every position is certainly unique and I/we do value your opinion.

Edgy or anyone else:

What would you consider the right amount of video to send? In other words, how long should the video be? What is too long?

It's been at least 8 or 9 years since I made and sent a video. Has anything changed? The one I made was around two minutes, I think.

I still feel that 12-15 best plays ONLY is the best highlight tape.

Kids, especially in this Hudl era have the capabilities of putting up a ton of stuff...I would still have a main 12-15 play highlight then have another larger video in that same player page.

Also no music...I have no issue with the Hudl generic music etx that's fine but otherwise it's not needed. Also spotlight shadow the player always if available.

Please also NO slow mo replays and no 17 different angles/replay of the same play either.

Simple and clean is better than any Hollywood production. I see Hollywood production and immediately think "what is this kid trying to hide" rightly or wrongly.

12 to 15 plays is roughly 4 minutes. If you think about it, that is really your best play in each game. If you can't get at least one good to great play in each game, then that kind of answers your recruiting questions. We you can play, it's not complicated. If your team doesn't make a post season run, then it's two plays per game.
