Is it me, or does Macon have a hard time holding on to the ball? I really noticed this a lot last year. it seemed he got the ball knocked out of his hands just about every time a defender harassed him and got a good hand on the ball particularly when he was about to go up for a cherry picker shot. Frustrated the hell out of me watching this, and hoped he got in the weight room off season to strengthen his hands and arms to improve his grip. I know he's lost weight, but after seeing the same thing happen in the Virginia game seems like his strength is still a question having the same thing happen again in the Virginia game a couple few times. I don't know, maybe I'm just nitpicking or delusional on this, but just drives me nuts. Just don't noticed that as much with other big men. Maybe my expectations are still high for him to come into his own after having been spoon fed on how great he was going to be the 10 years before he actually played a minute for the Mountaineers. Anyone else noticed this or have comments?

He's what .... 33 years old? Right?

OK ... I think he's 22 ... a 22 year old sophomore. Let's hope some things click soon. I mean really soon .... for his sake and a shot at pro-ball .... let's hope he starts playing smart and with confidence.

All of WVU's players have one issue or another. No player is a NBA caliber "complete" player. As good as Williams is he is a little clumsy and has trouble against elite defenders he also lacks court vision. Macon is strong but lacks coordination and has no reliable go to scoring move. Holton has the tools but his focus drifts from time to time. Ahmad seems like the complete package but lacks confidence right now to take shots and have a killer instinct. All of our considered bigs have one weakness or another. We have no true PG but a bunch of 2's we are forcing to play PG. This team is pretty good but its max potential is sweet 16 and that is very best case scenario. With the issues WVU has struggling to make the NCAA tournament is a real possibility.

In my opinion, I don't think there is any way we miss the tournament. I expect us to get better at PG and believe Esa will get much better.

Bolden would have given us great depth at PG this year if he had not gotten injured. That's going to hurt us by 2-4 wins this year, my prediction.

As for Macon, he just looks like a newborn deer sometimes. I think his mind is making and processing offensive moves that his body just can't do right now. He knows what he wants to do, he knows how to do it, but his body and athletic abilities are limiting his chances to show everyone that. Remember, though, you can't teach 6'9" and 260 pounds! His body will provide us with great depth, not to mention his offensive abilities are far more advanced compared to Watkins. We need Macon to come in to his own as the season progresses.

I felt coming in to the season we were a 22 win team. I'm sticking with that, but can see us getting to 26 more than us dropping to 20........big upside to this team.

I'm not going to say we will miss the tourney. But I can see this team having some problems. They may overcome their limitations through team play. But Press Virginia will not be an unknown commodity in the B12 this year. I think we'll be hard pressed to match last year's conference record.

And on the other hand ... the team I watched play for 17 minutes against Virginia looked like they could compete with anyone. It's gonna be a roller-coaster season.
