What if Herman goes to Texas and Briles goes to Houston ? If I recall, Briles has connection in or around Houston.

Or, what if Briles were to go to Texas ?

With those possibilities, I don't see UK in the mix.

Not just somebody else. I have as good a chance of winning the lottery as Mitch Barnhart does of identifying the up-and-comer who could fix this mess. We need a man who we know is an elite coach. Luckily, one is available. And I don't want to hear any bull shat about baggage.

Briles roots are in Texas, not that he wouldn't go somewhere else, but I think that's his preference. Depending how things go with Charlie Strong this year, it would be interesting to see Briles show up there. Briles at Texas would be brutal. It just depends how much weight an AD is going to put on what went on at Baylor, although there are plenty of the UL's of the world with flexible morals, so Briles will land somewhere and no doubt will be successful.

When Briles was fired by Baylor, I posted AU would be in contact with him before the season ended to replace Gus, and several here said he wouldn't ever be hired to coach a bigtime school again. Well, he will, after AU's showing last night Gus could survive this year, but Briles will be coaching somewhere this time next year if he wants. His age might factor in, but he will have the opportunity if he wants it, people want winning teams. But if your AD passed on Petrino because of character flaws, he was just an adulter and misused funds, I don't think he would go for a guy who covered up multiple rapes of young women, but he would be as sure thing as you are going to find.

It's certainly laughable that pious Mitch and scholarly Eli would ever even consider hiring Briles, much less actually do it. Which is, of course, par for the UK football course. This university must have friendly, non-threatening, non-controversial fellows as head coach - I think it's in the post-Bear Bryant era charter. IMO.

Uh, Briles coached at Houston before he went to Baylor. Their fans and administration were very bitter over the fact that he left. They don't want him back.

Barnfart is too busy hanging out with the girls volleyball team to be bothered with dealing with the train wreck that is our football coaching staff. Besides he feels Stoops is his man and he was brilliant enough to lock him down with that multi-million dollar buy-out. Guys like Mike Leach could not even get an interview with Barnfart because, well they just seemed too risky to him; besides if they were the head football coach they would probably tell him to "take a hike" just like Coach Cal did. Folks it will never get better if Barnfart is calling the shots.

49ers are going nowhere fast...wait about two years for that mess to implode, again...as soon as it does, load up Cal's jet with Craft, Cal himself, MB, Steve Zahn, the two Backstreet Boys that are from Kentucky, Matt Bevin, Ashley Judd (actually she's already out there at Cal Berkeley getting a Ph.d.), Scratch, and fly out to San Fran with an offer to make Chip the highest paid football coach, and Executive AD in charge of Football.

There's no way Barney is going to go after Briles. That guy has baggage; which is Barney repellent. It's the same reason he didn't go after Petrino or Tressel or even Calipari directly after Tubby left, etc.

For better or worse, winning is not at the top of Barney's check list for candidates.

My sources tell me the gears are already turning behind the scenes, and Mitch Barnhart's showing a lot of interest in this guy, and I hear it might be mutual.
