I saw on the IADA website that the Elk Grove HC position is open. What happened to John Sigmund? I thought he woudl do a great job getting that program back on the right track with his experience from Glenbard West.

Yes has been on The Coaching list I have pinned at the top of the board for about a week now. Very difficult job at EG very hard to attract and maintain overall numbers etc.

The precipitous fall off of Elk Grove still has me puzzled. 2011 & 2012 they were the beast of the MSL East under Doll, then he left and it just bottomed out.

Coach Sig is a great leader and builder of men. Everyone (remember I don't speak for coaching staff) at GW would love to have the Big Man back teaching our kids. He seemed really shocked that his extreme enthusiasm couldn't pull in better numbers.

No one has a better record of turning 170 lb kids into effective pulling guards or edge sealers. Plus you always trust Sigs because he treats the boys like family.

My feeling exactly....hope he is able to stay in coaching. If he cannot get Elk Grove going that does not speak well about the situation at EG

capnbill,

Met him a few times. Great guy.

My oldest had Sig as his position coach. Even though my kid saw the field on the rarest of occasion, my son still views Coach Sig as one of the most important, positive influences on his life. He made every kid feel special and part of a bigger plan.

And that stuff is outside of his tactical work in launching NFL caliber OL he produced in Watt, Walsh and soon to be Caspers.

capnbill,

I'm sort of involved a bit with an athletic program at West and met him before he left for Elk Grove. When I walked into the PE office he was really a good guy. Even though I met him only once I really got the impression he lives by what he talks to the kids he coached.

Coach Sigmund is a class act. I met him while working chains for the Elk Grove @ Libertyville home opener in 2015. During pregame, Coach Sig introduced himself to our crew and entertained us throughout the game with witty comments.

His Grenadiers were highly motivated but over-matched against the Riley Lees-led Wildcats. After witnessing Lees' 4th of 6 TD runs on the day (a 65 yard cutback), Sig put hands on knees and screamed to the turf, "I F*****G HATE BACKYARD FOOTBALL!"

Hat's off to Coach Sig, and best of luck in the future!
