…in retrospect, that defense was even more loaded than what I initially thought. Only winning 9 games was actually underachievement and frankly a failure. Double digit wins should have been minimum based on that defense. Go back and look at that depth chart.

Ernest Jones wasn't on the 2024 team, his rookie year for the Rams was 2021
Studs. Proud of E.J. Remember, he was too slow to play LB in the NFL. Couldn't cover tight ends. $28M contact with a $7M signing bonus on top of that. One of the best in the business.

The defense was absolutely loaded and it’s unfortunate that unit was only together one year. Kennard, TJ Sanders, Hemingway, Huntley, Thomas Jr, Stewart, Knight, Bam Martin-Scott, Debo Williams, JR Johnson, Kilgore, Fortune, DQ Smith, Emmanwori, and Collier. Pretty much all starters and some backups have or will have spent some time working with an NFL team.
That, and a FG kicker. Clutch kicks win the Alabama and LSU games. You can have a great offense and defense, but lose games due to special teams.
Underachieved, that team should have been in the sec championship race. If Spurrier had that team it would have been. Looking back, 2024 may have been just as damning as this past year regarding the staff.
The defense alone held its own though. Aside from the Ole Miss game. Really should have been at least 10-2. Developmental offense and kicking were more the issues.
