NBA bound when it gets in place by 2022 so it will be interesting to see how he is approached by schools. one of the recruiting analysts claims he’s the best high school prospect currently. Haven’t seen him play but appears he is expected to be the next generational talent.

I wouldn't put any stock with a kid who's 15 years old being labeled the "next generational talent". Wasn't 7th Woods supposed to be the next Kyrie Irving type talent at that age? I'm not saying the kid isn't good or won't be good at the next level. However, a lot can happen between now and the next 3 or 4 years. Look at Kevin Durant, no one knew who he was until later in HS.

Bring him in a year early before he's able to go straight from HS to the NBA. Would benefit him better anyway to play at Duke for a year rather than abusing HS seniors.

Good point. I see where you're coming from and it's always safe to not buy into the generational hype...but they do come around and he appears to be that guy. Obviously, anything can happen which is why he’s “expected” to be the next thing. I'm not sure if Seventh was ever labeled the best current prospect among all classes like this kid and I don't think a 9th grade PG who could leap with handles should ever get this kind of label. I finally watched his EYBL stuff and I can see the hype. You mentioned KD; ironically, he's very similar.

The difference between Emoni and Seventh is talent. Emoni has a developed skill set already. Seventh didn’t. He could “dunk real good. (- Every UNC fan)

Either way, I am sick of seeing this headline every year: Best recruit since LeBron.

There saying he’s better at this age than Zion (I’m assuming as he wasn’t mentioned in who was as good). On the list as good were Derrick Rose and Greg Oden.

Zion wasn’t viewed as skilled until he dismantled Kentucky. No surprise that they’d say that.

Let me rephrase what I said. They didn’t mention Zion or any other player at this age as being this good besides Rose and Oden. They didn’t mention Zion, Lebron, Kobe, Garnett, no one.

This is true. And it’s the beauty and curse of the exposure AAU gets now. If it wasn’t so slimy, it could be very similar to how soccer overseas has created youth programs. Instead, it’s a shoe war.

Apparently MSU just offered this kid and FSU is his only other major offer. Bates will be the class of 2022 and is the clear cut #1 prospect. Believe this will be the last class that has to go to college for a year.
Jeff Goodman compared him to Kevin Durant (same build and can shoot like KD) and Matt Norlander has said he is the best high school prospect since Lebron James.

This is my first time watching film on him and myyyyyyyyy goddddd.

High-school/AAU basketball has "generational" talents about as often as eastern North Carolina has a 100-year-flood, i.e. about every two to three years.

Yea I’m not sure why Duke hasn’t offered so they can stay on him for the next few years.

He's got talent but all the video I've seen show him dunking on what looks like JV kids. So I'll wait on the LeBron comps. But no doubt the kid is good. He has a nice crossover move for his size and gets to the basket with ease.

J.P. Tokoto was once the top player in his class. So were Chris Burgess and Shavlik Randolph. Remember when Tyrell Biggs (not the boxer) was the second coming of Elton Brand?

Sometimes teenagers peak physically before their peers. And stop developing before their peers.

Not saying that Bates isn't worth pursuing. Not saying he won't become the best thing since chocolate chip cookies and sweet iced tea.

But I'd like to see more before I start comparing him to LeBron or even Derrick Rose.

I remember reading an old college basketball preview magazine and Josh Hairston was a top 10 sophomore. I'm sure Bates is better than that but the hype train is really running full steam on this kid. Like the "Trevon Duval already has an NBA game" hs highlights.

Guys that got that label that young were guys like KG, Kobe, Lebron and Zion. There are some misses as well but those 3 plus Zion are top 30 NBA players of all time with 2 being top 7 or 8.

Think K has got a plan for the class through Bates. Why Baldwin will be a 2020 commitment and Bates will be a 2021 kid. Question is what’s done for a 2023 recruit like Bronny James. Know Lebron would push him towards Duke if he plays a year of college. Wonder what he does if he’s not a top 5 kid coming out of the 2023 class.

Zion is a top 30 NBA player already? Wow!!!

Take off your blue glasses and more than 10 minutes of a summer league game before saying ridiculous stuff like that

I'm not sure it's fair to put people with Duke Blue glasses in that same sentence. I think I'm a Duke homer and I wouldn't say that!

Go to the league. One year of college? What for? I knew plenty of guys who went for one year. Flunked out, gambled, did drugs...no one cares.

What I meant was outside of Zion, the others are all top 30 players ever in the NBA. I don’t wear tinted shades for any team.
