Empty EJ Promises

I remember when EJ took the job he said NBA players were calling him wanting to be assistants and it sounded like some recently retired high profile players were going to work at Rutgers. Also, what ever happened to RU be outfitted with special Kobe gear? I don't want to come down on EJ because he is a good guy but he obviously had a high opinion of himself saying these things. He either just made it up out of thin air or he decided to say it and then figure it out afterwards. All that stuff with the lack of recruiting and EJ was never really into this job or just not that good of a coach in the first place. Looking back on it sounds like a politican making these false promises after he won the election.

Just to set the record straight...

The Kobe gear was NOT fantasy...Nike just decided not to supply it at the current tier we were at when all that was being spoken about.

It was a business decision by Nike...pure and simple. We were not the only program involved.

Can't speak to the NBA coaching stuff

Would you like to fire him some more?

i think he underestimated and wasn't prepared for what was needed to succeed in college ball in 2013-16; the recent past of RU hoops not helping at all. A lot changed since he was an assistant under Wenzel in early 1990s. Very hit or miss with former NBA coaches in college.

Stupid post! Looking forward to Pikiell & staff moving us forward!

We can only hope EJ did his best and it didn't work out the way he or any of us expected.

Im much more disappointed we had such a vocal group of Eddie supporters on the board pushing an agenda that he needed to stay and it wasnt fair to fire him. Yet here we are now in such a much better place with Pikiell and a real chance at a future but had to go through all that fighting on the board...for what

Seriously bac, this is a message board people are allowed to state their opinion. If Jordan was kept there you would be a posting every 13 seconds on how you hate it.

I agree with seels. Let go of your hate bac. You should not look bitterly towards the past, but be hopeful for the future.

Are you referring to me. Someone that wanted Eddie to have a chance with a full roster. Yeah that was me, especially knowing Rutgers history..You do have to admit you are floored by the committment to basketball that was lacking for 20 plus years, opening up the cash coffers to get Hobbs and Knight on the staff. It is obviously a home run on paper, and now they have to go recruit, then they have to play defense, then they have to win! Your best shot at it was Sendek, but he was never seriously considered and you started supporting someone else.
We have for the first time in a long time , an AD that gets it . He takes a chance on the Ohio state tree for football, and Uconn and Calhoun tree for basketball, and the Uconn tree pays immediate dividends by getting Carl Hobbs, an actual former head coach on staff. Something that has never happened here. I am ecstatic and thrilled as a season ticket holder and someone that reps Rutgers everyday that things are changing. But don't give me any **** that you saw this coming . No reasonably intelligent follower of this program could have envisioned it.

Rather remember Eddie for his playing days, coaching was a disaster, lazy recruiter to boot. We are in great shape now as far as I can tell. Love this staff and finally a committed admin.

This is funny.....especially the last line, ......"we had to go through all that fighting on the board, for what". My signature below expresses my view.

I thought only little kids say, "I told you so".
