He should have moved his family over here after he was drafted. He only has a few million dollars. I think he could have afforded it. Situation sucks all around.

As usual, you don't get it. I PROMISE you if I was a known sports figure from Turkey and my parents lived there and I lived here, I wouldn't tweet stuff out that might get my family back in Portugal in trouble. It's called common freaking sense. You're telling me his Dad getting arrested wasn't because of his son's VERY VOCAL hatred for Turkey? Sure he can hate them, but to put it out there for the whole world to see and put his parents in harmsway is IGNORANT.

PS, pal, stick to bashing UK players and UK fans as that's all you're any good at.

I dunno man. I can see where you're coming from, but at the same time sitting around being quiet about what's happening will never result in any positive change.

On the flip side though, if I were living in Turkey and had a son in the NBA who had a platform to raise awareness, I would encourage him to be vocal about it no matter the cost to me personally. That's a sacrifice that I believe I'd have no choice but to make for the sake of the thousands of people also being repressed.

Do we know how Enes' father truly felt about Enes being openly critical of the Turkish government?

I can't bash Enes. I'd like to think he didn't think his family would be incarcerated for his opinion being he lives in a free country. We don't know anything about the situation but what we read.

All you're really doing is excusing the behavior of a tyrant and putting it on Enes for his having the gall to speak his mind. How American of you.

The Wall Street Journal featured a story in Enes Kanter this week. What Turkey is doing to him is not unique to him. They are systematically revoking passports of its citizens living outside the country.

I don't think it mattered if he spoke up or just kept quiet. Turkey is going after the outspoken ones for sure. But they're also going after anyone they're suspicious of.

I have in-laws who live in Turkey. I was with my Sister-in-Law this week who is a native of Istanbul. I went there last year. What that clown Erdogan is doing over there is getting ridiculous.

Turkey, and specifically Istanbul, were secular, Western countries. He's turning it into a Muslim dictatorship. My in-laws, who are (gasp) Muslim, are terrified with what is happening.

Maybe everybody here should give Kanter the benefit of a doubt, instead of questioning whether he is selfish or truly devoted to his family or trying to make fun of his name.

He's part of the UK family even if he never played here. And he's proud to be identified with UK.

How far should he let Erdogan go before he speaks out? Should he wait until he's back in Turkey? Good luck with that. And how do you all know that he hasn't tried to get his family out of there?

I would like to know more about this. Give examples from talking to your in laws. I think they are both crazy. Gulen and Erdogan. I believe we should turn Gulen over to Erdogan.

I think his family was pretty well off before Enes started playing basketball.

#1 - The never mention Gulen; just not an issue to them
#2 - They are just concerned that Turkey is going from a Westernized International Country to a conservative Islamic country. They think it's getting worse in terms of freedom, which means less economic activity too.

Understandable. I am clueless to the issue other than the propaganda that we get over here. There is plenty of propaganda out there about Gulen's movement being soft jihad here in the states. Gulen is allegedly connected to the opium trade. Like I said I don't know. I think they both suck but one of them is here in the states and he tried to overthrow Turkey with coup.

It would have been better if he did it with his family safe. How many people on here are willing to put their family in harms way just to criticize a government.

Sometimes you need to stand up for what is right despite the consequences. If you don't have conviction for what you believe, then you are just a hypocritical douche.

I agree with the greatest country on earth part but are we living safely? Should we be so blind that just because we enjoy a college basketball team that we understand what goes on in another country. Like I said I think Erdogan and Gulen are crazy. Gulen has over 140 schools in this country alone not to mention the 100s he has across the globe. There is information out there tying the opium trade to Gulen. So ask yourself if he infiltrated the Turkey government and tried to overthrow it what is he going to do here?

Connecting some dots that may open some eyes. Calipari has connections to the Clinton Foundation and Bill Clinton. Calipari raised over $1mil for Hoops for Haiti with the proceeds going to the Red Cross. Bill and Hillary brought Gulen to the US. Gulen donated big money to the Clinton campaign.
