So any upcoming attrition doesn't really help them on the limit? Their max is 23 because of the scholarship situation as it stands on signing day?

If the attrition after this point is known, and specifically documented (who, why, when, etc) to the B1G on signing day, then it's okay to push the +3 (our 23 number). It's not welcomed by the B1G but it's allowed. tSOU ran in to some trouble with it last summer with the IMG OT that signed with them and ended up at (I think) Georgia. tOSU saved face by claiming admissions didn't allow him, ya right.

I just can't stand when people make a commitment to a coach and then talk to their family and weasel out of it when circumstances change. Why can't we just trust the word of people anymo...wait.

Wrong thread. Sorry...

Welcome Englehaupt!!!

Indeed. I believe it was Clouse reported that Riley said the target was 21-23 scholarships this year.

It was the board wet dream that an 1/8 of the team walked and we just backfilled with anyone who had ever talked to Key Jr. in the 2016 class upwards of 28 schollies.

The only "undersigning" going on, is in people's minds as HTO basically explained since multiple players have not yet defected.

Hopefully, next year we won't be doing these last minute, desperation moves. But it looks like we filled a lot of needs and perhaps most importantly reupped the contracts of two of our best assistants.

Many of the top recruits wait until the last minute. So, you will always be scrambling at the end, unless you expect us to get 100% of our top choices every year.

Makes sense. IMO they should use up their 3 every year unless they are just 99% certain that everyone on the roster is a solid contributor.

Are we expecting a fax from Q. Alexander?

Schaefer's tweet from this AM says we "reaffirmed a LB commit" so I would assume yes.

No disagreement from me, to an extent. I'd keep at least 1 or 2 back for walk-ons, if some have been earned the prior season.

Who knows what he's going to do, family pressure is immense for him to stay close.

Any chance that's Jefferson since he recently "reconfirmed"?

This smells of desperation plan C by Riley. Why didn't they offer over a year ago to a Nebraska kid if he was good? This is the same ole stuff we have come to expect from the previous poor recruiter. Anything outside of the top 20 is not meeting basic recruiting expectations.

What percentage of the time over the past 35 years have we had a top 20 class?

What do you want them to do, leave the spot empty? Yes, obviously at this point it's a "fallback" offer because some guys higher up their board flipped.

But it's a position of need. I don't think anyone is expecting Fant to sign with NU and they didn't get Chase Allen, so there are worse things than offering a Nebraska kid when you need TE/DE.

If he wants to stick with Wyoming-fine, I don't blame him. I understand it's hard to get somebody to change their mind at the last minute. But if he does decide to flip to Nebraska, you have to understand he is from Nebraska and you really don't have anything to offer to counter the pull of a Nebraska kid playing for the Huskers. Who your coach is should not be a factor at all.
I get it trust me, I was born in Nebraska and many of my family members have gone to jail over Nebraska football. They're probably reading this right now, I just moved out west as a kid and have stayed out west. I have the benefit of rooting for him no matter what school he chooses like others will on here, I just know we badly need at him at that position (DE).. suppose what position he wants to play in college will factor in to his decision as well if NU is recruiting him as a TE.

That what happens when a player gives you his word then renigs at the last minute.
It happens all the time in recruiting. It happened to Osborne, Solich, Callahan, Pelini, and now Riley. There is no reason to cry about it. It will happen next year too. I have also seen those staffs flip players from other coaches too. The problem right now is I don't see many plan B options. Are we even going to take a full class? I know many knocked Pelini for this same type of thing.

According to Riley, a full class was 21-23.

With Engelhaupt N, we are on target. Jackson would put us moreso.

I've heard from multiple people for months that this kid deserved a scholarship after his play his senior year. I suspect that we thought we would have room for him but weren't sure until Fitzpatrick went elsewhere. Good late pickup and he will contribute.

It's just hard to keep up with all the names you have used through the years. I tried using Bubblegum III and was told I was banned for three months.

Because your TT account was banned, right? HTO wasn't banned at the time I changed to BGII. Laughing

Intentionally undersigning /= scrambling to sign people. That's talking out of both ends. The lock that didn't come through is Fitz, one guy.

We're not 6-7 recruits short of our allotment. Technically, there's 20 spots open, the B1G allows +3 to take it to 23. We're at 19 (see P.S., takes us to 20) with the remaining targets of Lamar Jackson, Beau Bisharat and David Engelhaupt. That also doesn't include any walk-on that's been put on scholarship (assuming Weber).

I will never understand why people like you try to even discuss recruiting.

P.S.
Also forgetting coach Williams' son who will count against our scholarship limit so we have 3 spots open as of this post.
Yes, Wherever did I get the idea that Nebraska would sign up to 28 recruits? Hmm...

Big mistake, I'll give you one more chance to own it...

can't you see this class finishing 15-20?

22-28 is where I see the class landing. 2017 has the makings of a top 15-ish class

The discussion wasn't how many will NU take, the discussion was where does NU finish in the ranking.

There you go, atta_boy was created for the kitty cat board but Matya got pissed and permabanned that loser. Damn TT, that was back in like 2006-ish.
Oh, I have a memory like a hawk . I specifically remember putting atta_boy in his place many a time so it wasn't just used on the kitty board. I do have to say I was fooled by that name and only realized it was you after the third time that I took you to the woodshed over Harv and Stevie P.
