Epic JV Game Coming Soon

Just made aware of a newly scheduled game that looks to be a pretty fun game. Laugh if you will but GW takes JV pretty seriously. Hetlet demands every level, every game reps the program and for the 8+ years of games I know, GW has not lost. Two years in that run they gave up no points. Yes it is a much shorter game as two 20-minute halves with mostly running clocks and no FGs, but it simply demonstrates the program mentality.

This year, on Oct 15 at 9:30am at GW (not Duchon but the turf field we know as Memorial), we welcome the LWE JV. All indications are that LWE is so deep they could likely field two if not three competitive varsity teams. On the face of it, this is a death wish to GWs 8+ year winning streak.

The good news / bad news for GW is that we play PW the Friday night before. All due respect to PW but with a new coach over there not exactly putting up great numbers thus far, it would likely mean GW starters out by halftime. LWE plays Bradley in what looks a highly competitive GOW kind of game.

Yes, you actually may have just witnessed the very first instance of sandbagging on the JV level on this board.

Bottom line is that this may be the first ever non-conference JV game GW has ever played that had the potential to be a great football game.

Just wanted this out there early so everyone could adjust their schedules.

JV football records mean nothing, you sound like the pinhead at Plainfield North who believes his 3 yr winning streak at frosh and JV is something to boast about, when varsity can't win a playoff game. Glad you can adjust your schedule....now everyone back to your regularly scheduled programs this fine Sunday afternoon.

Hey Prowler, my varsity team is 100-8 over that period of our JV streak with 2 state titles. Those that know me know I try to keep things loose around here. I am a big fan of satire and posting on this board about JV football could not be a more obvious attempt at such.

Obviously you have zero sense of humor but I hope you feel better about yourself.

Feeling great! Appreciate the stats to prove the point you feel the 2 are somehow related. Anyhow to each his own, good luck to your varsity and JV as the season progresses! We will all be patiently awaiting the results of the epic JV matchup! ✌️

Prowler - you are way off base here, buddy. Capnbill is a very well respected member on this forum and I think the majority of us appreciate his insight, as well as his humor. Despite the fact that his team (The Hitters of Glenbard West) are a perennial power and a top 3 program in the state, his contributions to this sight are always humble, respectful and classy. As such, the majority of us on this site understand that this thread is purely tongue-in-cheek.

Thanks guys. Didn't mean to start trouble. I actually thought the sunglasses emoji at the end would serve as my Sarcastic Font but missed the fact that some on the board lurk waiting for someone to tout something that is meaningless, to ensure they are the first or best to put someone in their place.

We have a running joke at GW that the highest achievement is to make JV State first team. We tell the boys that Edgy is in the stands scouting for the next wave of GW talent. Of course the kids on JV are just program kids for the most part. Program kids bust their tails just as hard and serve as blocking or tackling dummies all week until they finally get their chance. JV is like glorified sandlot football where a couple of fun coaches draw the grunt duty of "coaching" JV. Most plays are drawn up in the dirt in the huddle as the players generally run only the opponent scheme all week.

For those that have never experienced the pleasure of JV football, I completely understand the eye roll. I just love the spirit of JV. GW Varsity kids show up to help coach the teams and every one gets to actually have fun playing football. I've watched 4th string OGs play LB and NGs get to carry the football.

On the flip side, certain programs like LWE, Homer Flosswood, Loyola and MC are so busting at the seams with real football players that JV teams actually include some real talent that will be starring on the varsity field the next year or possibly even the next week if an injury happens. Of course this thread was written as absurdist satire but if you have never taken the time to watch a JV game, you should. Never a parking problem or trouble finding seats. Just a bunch of kids having fun playing a game that we all love.

Cheers

At Palatine the varsity coaches are all in attendance and take the games very seriously..never know when an injury will require a "next up" and what better place to show your stuff. Last year's Schaumburg game we had guys listed as back up DBs playing linebacker due to injuries at one point

BTW...I'd wanna see that game! As you noted, given the two programs the JV game might be better than some varsity games you'll see...

Prowler that is totally uncalled for on your part, I rarely post but have to post here that you are way out of line.

You guys realize that you've talked more about a LWE JV game than about the varsity game?

To be fair, no one from Brook or LWE has posted a thought about the outcome of the varsity game this week.

This was a fun thread talking about a future JV game. If you want to talk about about the LWE-HF game, start a thread called LWE Homer Flosswood - The Epic Battle.

Nah I'll pass. I just thought it was funny...

Wow I didn't know that about GBW and their JV record. That is tough to do considering JV is a platform to give program kids a chance to play as well as develop under classmen for the varsity. Tough to win that many games while still trying to satisfy both objectives.

Sorry Capnbill - I would have to give the edge to LWE JV in the match up ;). You might be facing your first loss since news of the Titanic reached the states. Having 495 guys in the program adds just a touch of depth to their JV team!!

Hey Voodoo, I agree on the streak ending. Funny thing is that they barely keep score in JV games so it is not like the streak means anything. Some schools barely get enough kids to the field on time to start games, while others (York) show up in unison with theme music. None of the games amount to much, but to the kids that play them, they want to represent. I'm sure LWE will show up with 70 kids chomping at the bit to show coaches they deserve more playing time on the big stage and give GW a tiny amount of payback for 2012. That is why I thought the game would be a fun one. If GW ends up in 7A, it would be the only chance of seeing these programs meet in 2016.

No need for such a very rude post. FYI, JV games mean something in winning football programs, because winning programs focus on winning at all levels of their program.

I'll bet LWE is well represented at this game, and the GE fans will show up in force. Should be lots of fun, for the kids and the fans. Hope someone at Gw gets a High School Cube camera going for this one!

I realize that normally everyone would laugh at a JV game, right Prowler?
It's just a game to let more kids have the game playing experience it shouldn't really offend anyone.
But, I would guess that the two JV teams in this instance could beat 70-80% of the varsity teams in the state.

Wondering how much it cost Epic to become the title sponsor of this battle?
