Talked to two different people that were there, one Murphy and one neutral. Both thought Murphy looked better overall and would win a real game. Either way good showing for a young Murphy team.

Im actually here. Guess it depends on what color they wear. Lol

for the Dogs to hop on a bus at 645 am and ride 2 hrs to asheville and go toe to toe with what was supposed to be a quality team is optimistic news for this fan....cant read to much into a first scrimmage but i now definantly think Robbinsville has more than a legit shot at Erwin in a real game.....

Both of Erwins TDs came after they had been stopped on downs multiple times. Never stopped our ones. The red zone TDs don't hardly count. 3-2 regular offense, 2-2 red zone. Big thing was no turnovers, for Dogs.

Well I'm not going to get into a pissing match about who won the scrimmage game but when the starters were playing both teams were even with two touchdowns a piece. Both teams scored twice in the red zone when they were just running from the 10-yard line. Murphy is a good team especially for 1A. If they go small 1A they will probably win it again. They do have some weaknesses but every team does. The one that stood out the most was the secondary but they probably won't play a lot of teams that can pass good. They got burned on some long plays. As for Erwin they are about what I expected. I knew starting a sophomore quarterback what's going to be a growing experience for sure. He did some things wrong but I was impressed that he was able to throw 4 td's against a good team. All in all I would say this was a pretty even matchup. Good luck to Murphy the rest of the season.

Murphy never stopped Erwin's ones either? Both of Murphy's touchdowns took 7 to 10 tries to score. Like I said, pretty even match up

Same to yours BD. Gonna need ya'll to beat Mitchell so Murphy don't have to drive up there again lol

I hope so. This is definitely not the Erwin team of the last few years but they could be pretty dangerous later in the season. You fellas have a good day. Time to go fishing. Lol

I was at the game checking out Murphy.Dogs are big upfront for a 1A school. Thought their starting QB looked good, a couple of good running back.I agree you can throw against them, small defensive backs. Should be a really good game when my Bears go to Murphy.Looks like Murphy has a kicker for a change.
As for Erwin looked good at times. Receivers dropped several balls they should have caught. Qb is going to be another good one. Seems they always have good QB. Erwin will have to get better to beat Reynolds and Asheville. Certainly, those mounties will give all three a fit:D:D:D.
All in all a good scrimmage game for both teams.

Murphy has a couple of tall and really athletic DB's walking the halls in M. Crowder (around 6'0) and I. Smith (around 6'2) but they can't be bothered to play anymore.

A shame really because all I've heard is Murphy looked the weakest at DB. Not surprising though with the Dogs inexperience and lack of size at the position going up against a pass heavy team like Erwin.

Unbiased opinion from a football fan,
Murphy whipped the piss out of Erwin up front. Bulldogs ran it down Erwin's throat all morning. Erwin typical deep pass threat was the only way they moved the ball. Erwins Dline started slow but got better at the end. Erwin's QBs looked good, shifty in the backfield. Murphy's D end (#82?) Was impressive to me.
First time out of the gate for both teams, if I were a fan of either team I would have like what I saw. But especially if I was a Murphy fan, running game is legit.

How did Murphy's QB look in your opinion? He's only a 10th grader and how quickly the game slows down for him and he gets settled in will say a lot about how good Murphy ultimately ends up being this season.

I’m from the SMC but this is my opinion. Remember this is Aug 10th on a Saturday morning at 10:00 am. Also both teams had a lot of young players and IMO not the usual speed skill players they are both accustomed to. Murphy’s line is big and strong. They moved the ball very good against 3A Erwin. The young Qb done fine for a sophomore and will only get better. Murphy’s defensive line dominated and Erwin could not run the ball against them. Murphy’s LB did well also and I know that was a concern after losing Lb’s to graduation. Secondary played good and gave up some big plays downfield but that can be worked on and they will not see a team in the SMC with a QB and host of wide receivers like Erwin had.

Erwin had size and protected the Qb very well for most of the day. Erwin had lost big time playmakers to graduation but they will only get better. The QB looked great especially for his first varsity start, A lot of dropped balls early that could have changed the momentum. Erwin will need to establish a running game in order to finish high in the standings. They have the line to do it with but seems like they are going to be pass first team. Their defense did stiffen up but never playing against Murphy’s misdirection offense which Murphy runs to perfection kept them on their heels

I always wanted to see a powerhouse 1A go up against a very good 3 A team. I enjoyed it but even though both teams are great neither team had the usual big playmakers they have had in the past which would have been even better to watch. I can’t speak for Erwin because I don’t know the competition they will be playing against. Murphy will be in great shape in the SMC due to their great line on both sides of the ball. Robbinsville and Swain will be slobber nickers this year in my opinion. I also feel Robbinsville will be a very tough game for Erwin to win because of Robbinsville offensive line play and two of the best backs in the SMC. Robbinsville will control the clock by running the ball but also has breakaway speed to take it to the house. The DLine will put pressure on the Erwin Qb but to stay in the game Robbinsville will have to have great secondary play.

My opinion doesn’t mean anything but this is what I seen and how I feel. Both teams are going to only get better and will be different under the Friday night lights. Look forward to keeping up with both teams this season

I was there and feel the same. The only thing that could have changed things could have been special teams play in a real game and Erwin being able to make big return plays on punt and kickoff. IMO

I was under the impression the north murray scrimmage wasnt happening. It was taken off Murphys schedule. I could be wrong tho. I believe it was supposed to be played @ Murphy.

In a 10 play drive and you get shut down until the bomb on the 10th play.... don’t think that’s correlating to an actual score ole boy.

If all this information is correct Mitchell, Heritage, and Robbinsville my have a good chance at beating Erwin but these scrimmage games don't always determine what kind of team you will field a good coach is always playing his young players to see how they respond now Erwin had a good team team last year and I expected them to be better this year but we will see I don't care how good a 1a team is there is no excuse for Erwin losing to them they usually have 2 many athletes but if they can't figure out how to use them That's on the coach now if Erwin don't have the speed at side receiver this year as they do most years they may be in for a long year but I'm going to wait till they play Mitchell and Heritage to pass judgement on them..

They have plenty of speed everywhere, impressive bunch. The difference was that Murphy's lines just manhandled Erwins lines. Erwin could not run the ball at all. I don't think that is so much an indictment of Erwin as it is a sign of how good Murphy's lines actually are. Those boys are BIG and they are STRONG.

Erwin never lost to anyone it's a scrimmage game they are both still 0-0 . Erwin played a lot of people so did Murphy. That's what a scrimmage is for to see who plays well enough at what position and it gives the players someone else to hit instead of their own teammates..The only thing worse than a controlled scrimmage is a 7on 7. Next week real high school football starts
