Time to put the chest-thumping and arguing of the ESCC regular season behind us. It is 'put up or shut up' time.

8A:
ND-35 Marist-28...ND's defense has improved since the first meeting. I think that improved defense is the difference here and the Dons avenge their only loss.

7A:
Benet-24 SCN-21...I know very little about St. Charles (or the UEC, in general). So, when in doubt, go with the ESCC.

5A:
Naz-42 Sycamore-14...Looks like Sycamore struggled with some mediocre teams. Roadrunners roll.

JCA-49 Vernon Hills-21...All three of Vernon Hills' defeats have been in very close games. This one, however, won't be close.

MCC-28 Belvidere-24...Belvidere looks like a tough team. MCC's infamous homefield advantage is the difference here.

I hear ya regarding the regular season issues. Seems the ESCC Week 9 prediction thread just would not die.

Marist 42 ND 38....Both teams have explosive offenses. I think Marist has slightly better athletes. Definitely a pick em game.

SCN 31 Benet 21...SCN has put up some points. Benet's strength is their defense. Last week's struggles against Marian are a concern. Benet's QB will need to make plays. They will also need to have success running the ball to keep the SCN offense off the field. I don't have a good read on Benet. Hope I'm wrong on this one.

Naz 49 Sycamore 21....Sycamore has a big QB who can run and pass. I don't think they want to get into a shootout with Naz. Can they contain Naz' speed on offense? The Roadrunners' offense has taken off since the 2nd half of the JC game. Their multiple options will be too much for Sycamore.

JCA 38 Vernon Hills 14....VH played Warren tough....losing by 1 in double OT. I believe their QB is a 3-year starter. He will test the JC defense. Have the Cougars faced a team as physical as JCA, who got many of their injured players back last week? I'm guessing the Hilltoppers bring back the FB and go to their power running game, as opposed to what they did last week against Marist.

MCC 31 Belvidere 14....Belvidere plays a number of larger enrollment schools in the NIC-10. They are a battle-tested 5A team. It's difficult to gauge the strength of the NIC-10, since they don't play non-cons. The Hurricanes beat Pat's handily 35-6 at Hanson. That's an impressive win. Hanson is not an easy place to play. You have to like their chances in Woodstock.

Marist is pissed about losing 3 one score games and finishing 5-4. Notre Dame is pissed that there only loss of the season was to Marist. This is going to be one of the best games of the first round. I got Marist again.

Belvidere very well could beat MCC, played in a 7A conference against much bigger schools. Beat Honenegah and Harlem, gave Geneseo a very good game last year in round 1 as well.
