ESCC Week 2 Predictions

Week 1 in the books. A few quick observations:

-Kind of surprised to see Viator not only lose but not really even be competitive
-JCA faces a tough road to 5-4 and the playoffs but I think they get it done. I see them losing to Wheaton North, Marist and Naz but winning the rest.
-Big win for the Dons against a much faster opponent. The natural grass at Thornton really helped ND's more physical style of play.
-Big win for the Shamrocks (gag).

This week's predictions:

-St Francis-28 St. Viator-20

-Marist-31 Simeon-21

-St. Pats-47 Glenbrook South-24

-Marian-27 Yorkville-13

-Naz-49 Leo-22

-Wheaton North-31 JCA-14

-NND-24 Benet-10 (is this considered a non-conf game or what?)

Can we get through this thread sans the drama of last week?

St. Francis 21 Viator 17....read where Cole Kmet was out last week with mono. I'm guessing he does not play again this week. The game is in Wheaton, which gives the Spartans a slight edge.

Simeon 21 Marist 20...looks like Marist has a long way to go offensively. They get another tough opponent, who narrowly lost to a good OPRF team. It will take awhile for the Redhawks' offense to get untracked this year.

Pat's 49 GBS 28...the Pat's win and the number of points (47) scored was last week's biggest surprise in the ESCC, IMO. GBS gave up a lot of points last week against Barrington, so expect the high flying Shamrocks to light up the scoreboard.

Marian Catholic 28 Yorkville 21...Yorkville lost to West Aurora, and Marian rolled Urban Prep. No idea in this game. I'm guessing Cameron Thomas will be the difference.

Naz 52 Leo 7....most objective observers of IL HS football like the Roadrunners' chances in this one.

WN 45 JCA 21...WN got the big win over rival WWS last week. JC made numerous mistakes against Franklin, WI. WN lost the last two games in this series. They will be highly motivated. I expect QB Luke Anthony to have success throwing the ball. JCA needs to get Kevon Johnson going. Soph RB Keenan Hailey looked very good last week (182 yards) in his first varsity game. This is a veteran WN team.

Benet 24 ND 21...sounded like Benet had trouble containing Laurence's speed last week. ND ran the ball very well against Thornton and got a big win in Harvey. This should be a close, hard hitting game. I give the slight edge to Benet at home. The Redwings don't want to start 0-2.

CoM 28 Dekalb 24....this is another nice matchup. Carmel came back to win last week after being down at the half, overcoming the WI advantage of already having played a game. Dekalb handled Moline. I give the Corsairs a slight edge in Mundelein.

MCC 35 Morse Marshal WI 7...even with their second win, the Canes face an uphill battle to get to 5 wins.
