OK week 1 overall for the ESCC. JCA was back to their old ways. Naz overpowered a top tier out-of-state opponent. ND didn't break a sweat vs Geneva. MCC beat a strong Johnsburg team and Benet overpowered a Lenti-fueled St. Laurence team.

On the other hand, Marist didn't look great against BR. Pat's didn't blow out Taft. Carmel and Marian Catholic continues their losing ways. And Viator lost a late heartbreaker to Prospect.

Viator-28 Lodi (WI)-14

Marist-24 Mishawaka-21...tough game, looks like Mishawaka is a top 25 team in Indiana

Pats-28 Glenbrook South-10...Shamrocks in for a rude awakening weeks 3/4 when they play Benet/Naz

Marian-45 North Lawndale-7

JCA-34 ICCP-28...Huge game for JCA's playoff chances with Marist/Benet/Naz/ND on tap in conference play

Naz-16 LZ-7...Defensive slugfest

Moline-27 Benet-21

St. Charles East-38 CoM-14

ND-48 Oak Forest-13...Dons will not be tested until week 3 when they begin a tough Marist/Benet/MCC stretch

Viator- No idea but gonna be a homer on this
Marist- They won't miss the playoffs, but they do not want to be 0-2
Pats- 2 INT's and a failed 4th down in the first half in the red zone kept the game marginally close. GBS looked terrible against Meadows
Marian-Wont be an issue for the Spartans
ICCP- JCA is coming back, but back to back games like this to start the season is a lot to ask for in a rebuilding program. Should be an awesome atmosphere!
Naz- Athletes win this game in the end. Great match up!
Benet- Benet is not elite, but they can play with most squads.
STE- Carmel is in disarray.
ND- That Mike Hennessey...smart scheduling!
MCC- I don't think MCC will stomp NN out, but they should pull away in the 4th

Word on the street is LZ is overrated. Heard some inside info today. Naz by 28.

Pats will win be 3 TDs, GBS is down this year.

Lodi over Viator...blind guess. Going with the WI team at home.
Marist over Mishawka.....this has become a big game for the Redhawks. They have ND on the road next week. A loss here, and an 0-3 start is a possibility. They need to get the offense going. I think they do that at home this week.
Pat's over Glenbrook So....the Shamrocks get another win before the conference gauntlet begins.
Marian Cath over North Lawndale.....this is Marian's best chance at a win this year.
IC over JCA....intriguing matchup. How is the health of the Hillmen? What type of test did Althoff provide last week for IC? JCA is going to need to get the passing game going. Did they play to the game situation and weather last week or do they not have a passing game? Big test on the road. IC has size and athletes. And, Jchill doesn't want me or anyone else picking JCA and showing them a modicum of respect. :cool:
Naz over LZ....I've heard the word on the street, but I think LZ is pretty good. Plus, it's at LZ. Naz' defense was impressive in Week 1. Could the defense actually be underrated? Is it humanly possible for a Naz team to be underrated in any area? Not in the heady days of the INP, but those days are gone. In the final analysis, I agree with JCHill....Naz' superior athleticism will be the difference.
Benet over Moline....Benet's Coach New believes this might be the Redwings' best defense in his tenure. That's saying something. Benet has played tough D the last number of years. Hearing good things about the Jr. QB. This has the makings of a very good Benet team.
SCE over Carmel....rough scheduling for the Corsairs here.
ND over Oak Forest....the fact that ND has a multiplier waiver this year seems to have been ignored. Be warned 6A.
MCC over Niles North....MCC got a big road win at Johnsburg in Week 1. Niles North handled Raby. This one might be closer than many think. Can't pick against the Hurricanes in Woodstock, though.

Marist will win by 30. They are a very good team & will come ready to play. Don’t worry or get down on them because they lost a tight one on the road to a heated rival. They will end up 8-1. Mark it down.

ESCC - do you keep track of the picks for an ESCC Champions game Pickers Cup?

Word on the street is that the New Conference in the western burbs is crowning the champion game picker of that conference at the end of the season with the much coveted inaugural “Clown Cup”.

I have not in prior years...but this will be the year! I will fire up a spreadsheet tomorrow and begin the tracking. Will just be doing straight up win/loss rather than pulling spreads off CalPreps as the 'other' Catholic league thread does...as that promotes the very anti-Catholic vice of gambling.

I’m in! I love the competition. This one will be much tougher on me as I don’t know the teams as well. Going to study up some at lunch tomorrow and get my picks in for week 2!!

Ok since an ESCC game pickers Cup is on the line!,... here goes nothin.

* St. Viator - Too many cheese curds before the game for the WI kids and stomach aches slow down the Lodi team.

* Marist - because they beat WV in 2015 in the semis for the right to determine who was going to get pummeled by that loaded Rambler squad.

* Pats - because Tom Brady is ageless.

* Marion - because that is such a beautiful name and was Robin Hood’s main squeeze.

Edit on wed early evening (need witnesses): oh my gosh how did I forget the JCA/IC game. The ESCC is blessed with so many teams that the only way a game could have slipped through the cracks is because of the overwhelming numbers of teams (NVC only has 5 so very easy to keep track of those rascals)

For my man Jchill - I am going with JCA in a tightly contested match up. I like the experience JCA has back in their starters, and what I beleive is a size advantage. I think JCA can wear them down. IC will make it very tough - but I want to be in the good graces of the posse when they ride into town next week on the forum!!

* Naz -because I have also heard some rumblings on the street (at work) in addition to the whispers on the board in a few threads. Where there is smoke there is usually fire.

* Benet - they don’t get enough respect and they have recently been playing tough D the past few years. Also QB has some experience and some weapons to work with - should be a pretty balanced team? Balance can beat a lot of people!!

* STE - who does their scheduling? Can you come over and work some of your magic for Naperville Central, Waubonsie, and Neuqua please? I hear D203 and D204 pay quite well and the hours are good and you get free lunch/Dinner on Thursday’s!

* ND - the Irish rock!

* MCC - because, well, I am out of ideas and it’s the last pick.

Well.... (throat clearing, stammering) Yes! (Awkward silence and nervous babbling).

I mean the Dukane did not have a steller week one and with everyone going 8-0 and 7-1 seems like poster/fan expectations were muted with a lot of teams for this year.

That said - those Wheaton North Falcon guys are almost as adept at sandbagging as Cross Bones. Someone said they would be fighting for the bottom of the league? No way in my opinion. They are going to take down Geneva and Glenbard North and then we will see what happens in the rivalry game.

Didn't catch the game on Friday but did any one see ND?? How'd they look?

Pats- tougher than last week but still should win easy
ND- easy...might see running clock
Marist-cant start 0-2.
Benet-good defense leads the way
JC- show the boys in Elmhurst how real Catholics play football

Dons looked good. Ty Gavin had 3 TDs in the first quarter (2 rushing and 1 INT return). Anthony Sayles (soph QB) had some really impressive runs--including a 90 yard TD run. He is electric and as he grows in to the position, watch out. Defense was really stout except for one breakdown of coverage that led to Geneva's only TD.

Actually I was definitely impressed with the amount of posters picking so many winners. Tells me that they know their conference teams very well.

HOW IN THE WORLD does Naz play a top tier team from St. Louis, LOADED with power 5 kids week 1 and week 2 play a ranked LZ team and get no press?! What a world. What. A. Word. Cn100 I’m looking at you.

2 top 10 (7a) teams play tomorrow night. Get your popcorn ready! I can’t wait for this one!

My take...

Viator- gotta stick with the IL boys
Marist-rebound game, and see above logic
Pats- have a lot of friends named Pat
Marian- Marian is bad, NL may be worse
JCA- funny how things changed, JCA wouldn't have even schedule this game 10-15 years ago. IC certainly has the swag to hang with them now, but I'm going to tap into the JCA posse
Naz - agree with the above posters. When it's a defensive battle, sometimes you need a stud to produce that one big play/score. Naz simply seems to have more studs.
Benet - looking tough
St Charles East - starters out by the 3Q.
ND - don don, don don, don don don don don don don don
MCC - Hurricane season

St. Viator over. Lodi (WI)- I am going with Viator because I don't know much about Lodi and go IL!

Marist over Mishawaka- I saw that Mishawaka is ranked in the top 25, but I like Marist a lot and they will definitely be a top team in IL all year. Have to think that they will want to bounce back well after the loss to BR

Pats over GBS- Shamrocks win because I don't expect much from GBS

Marian over North Lawndale- don't know anything about this game

JCA over IC- Huge game that I wish I could be at, I think it will be tight but JCA pulls away in the 4th quarter and wins by 2 scores. I just don't know if IC can keep up in the front 7 and it will result in a good win for JCA

Naz over Lake Zurich- I am hearing on the board that people think Lake Zurich is a little overrated, and I really like Naz this year so I am stick in conference with this one

Benet over Moline- This one might be the toughest for me, I don't like the long road trip Benet has to take, but I do think Benet will be dangerous come playoff time again, so I am going with Benet in a tight one

St. Charles East over Camel- I just don't think Carmel has the squad to do much in this game considering they lost last weekend to a lesser team. won't be close

ND over Oak Forest- D-O-N-S DONS DONS DONS! I think the talented Dons team wins easily here and enter conference play 2-0

MCC over Niles North- I will stick with my canes here again this week, but I think it will be closer than people think. The new head coach at Niles North is well respected and done well for himself in the past and have a large enrollment compared to MCC, but I think MCC has the better talent and making Niles North make the long trek to Woodstock helps the canes' chances even better.

Picked all conference teams except for 1 this week. Good luck everyone!
