Solid week for the ESCC. Quality non-conference wins for St. Viator, Marist and JCA. Do not know a ton about MCC's and ND's out-of-state opponents but good to see both of them notch wins as well. Marian looked competitive which is the first time they have done so against a non-CPS opponent in some time. CoM will have some growing pains with a freshman QB, but I imagine they will start clicking soon enough. Some good match-ups this week:

Viator-28 Lake Forest-21

Marist-35 Mishawaka-17

Pats-34 GBS-14

Marian-33 Yorkville-21

Wheaton North-38 JCA-20

Naz-45 DLS-14

Benet-28 ND-17

DeKalb-27 CoM-14

MCC-28 Columbus, WI-17

MCC's win was a very solid one! Their first week opponent, Oak Creek, is a division 1 team in Wisconsin which is the largest schools in the state. I believe their enrollment is right about 2200. Oak Creek lost in the second round last year in the playoffs to the eventual runner up, 2nd place team, by a small margin! Again a very good win for MCC!

That Nazareth margin of victory would surprise me.

Anyone know how the freshman QB for CoM looked in game 1? Passing stats weren't very good, but may not paint an accurate picture.

Would really be a great surprise if Marian beat Yorkville.

I do agree with you for once. Naz playing in their first game. I expect much closer.

Based my prediction on DLS struggling with a weak Niles North program. But agreed--first game for Naz could lead to some early hiccups.

Viator over Lake Forest....nice win for the Lions over RM. Hear good things about the 2nd-yr. Coach Archibald. LF is a quality program. Should be a good one. Slight nod to Viator at home.
Marist over Mishawaka, IN....the Jr. QB should be better after getting a game under his belt. Know nothing about Mishwaka. Marist is very good. D-line has a chance to be dominant, and offense should come around with their numerous weapons.
Glenbrook So over Pat's....no clue on this one. Going with GBS at home. Rita handed it to Pat's in convincing fashion. We'll see if the new coach can bounce back.
Yorkville over Marian of the Heights....long year for the Spartans.
JCA over Wheaton No....JC's defense will need to play better. WN ran all over them last year. WN was outgained by WWS, but made the plays to win the game, including a 90 yd Int. return for a TD. Was impressed with the young O-line for JC, and they have a stable of RB's. Giving JC a slight edge at home.
Naz over De La Salle....the Meteors have some nice top end talent, and they have an actual game under their belts. Could be close.
Benet over ND...this should be a good one. Benet put up a lot of points. ND seems to have their typical physical team. IMO, this Benet team has a chance to be very good.
DeKalb over Carmel....another tough opponent on the road for the Fr. QB....with Marist and Naz to follow. Yikes...
MCC over Columbus WI....nice Week 1 win for the Hurricanes. Blind guess here.

Last year Benet moved up a frosh QB up to sophomore. Did he get moved up and is he playing for their varsity? They just rid of a three year starter.

I don't want to hijack this thread but can any of you ESCC guys tell me why ND is not better in football? You would think they could grab a few kids from LA and MS.
I live really close to ND and will catch an occasional baseball game but never football. So i do cheer for them.

ND won the conference two years ago. They have made the playoffs for the past 8 years I think. The problem is that they play in 8a because they get the multiplier and then multiplied by two. So they end up playing teams that have 80 kids on their team.

I think heading into the future...Marist and ND and Naz are the future of the conference. The blue collar kids they get are all "allowed" to play football. Unfortunately my shamrocks are going to have trouble getting kids in the building because the neighborhood around Austin and Belmont.

Looked pretty good. Had a lot by drops I counted at least 4-5 and overthrew a couple of times that would of been long gains if not a TD. Threaded a 2pt conversion on a cross route with a lot of traffic.
Don't believe he got sacked as he was very mobile. Run game was nonexistent. Defense was overworked and couldn't stop read option attack of Richards. Stayed in base 3-5-3 all night with no adjustments or stunts. Going be a long yr if the defense doesn't step up. Coaches on that side of the ball need refreshing like the offense has done this year.

Crowd reminded me a lot of the early 2000's full house and parking was a premium. Might be long season but future looks promising as lower levels appear to have some players. As son said "Carmel going 5 wide? I graduated two yrs to early" he would of loved to have had more ops to catch the ball but is doing just fine where he's at now

Benet has 72 white collar kids on the varsity that are allowed to play football. They will be part of the conferences future as well.

Thank god there aren't more Benet people on here. They are truly hard to stomach, their entitlement has no limits.

Right, because that is exactly the kind of welcoming inclusive statement designed to draw more in.

Thanks for that. It seems forever that Carmel has relied on their Offense to keep the D off the field. A nonexistent run game does not bode well for this year. 2 wins this year maybe. I hope I eat my words.

Any school in the ESCC can be "the future" of the conference as long as the school is committed to football and there's a coach who knows what he's doing in terms of establishing culture and respect. White Collared people love their football just as much as your "Frank's and Don's" who drink at the Edison Park Inn. Go to a game at New Trier, Loyola, or one of the Naperville schools. They are huge events on Friday nights in their communities

If Mount Carmel and St. Rita can get kids in their doors to play sports at a high level, Saint Pat's can as well becasue Austin and Belmont is pretty tame for the most part compared to Ashburn and Woodlawn. Maybe the Shamrock board and leadership need to reassess their direction as a school if they want to be a strong sports school again.

I was talking about this with some Richards folks. The #1 strength in CoM was running that option. Teams weren't used to seeing it. Its hard to simulate in practice. And keeps your defense fresh. Now that they spread out they are at a disadvantage

IDK, I think a certain school in Joliet may play at least a small role in the future of the conference.

Interesting thread with the sub plots and such.
Right. It's gone from game predictions to the future of the conference to offensive philosophy to evaluating the snootiness of fan bases etc. etc.

All it's missing is Jwar weighing in on the quality of each school's respective field.

Just seems a little bizarre to scrap 20+ years of triple option for the spread because of one freshman. Hopefully Bitto has some help with passing philosophy or we are in for a hurtin.

Guys... think JCA will handle WN. Also... had the misfortune of attending the Niles ND frosh and soph games against my NN Huskies Friday afternoon. ND frosh were beating the NN frosh early 3rd q 30-0, eventually clearing the bench in 2nd half on their way to a 30-6 win. Then it got uglier the next game with NND sophs winning 50-0. NND has solid numbers at the lower levels, future looks bright. On the other hand... Naper North lower levels are a disaster. No size, no athletes, no talent, no fundamentals. Worst football I've seen at the school since the doors opened in 1975.

I disagree with the word 'disadvantage'. And teams not being used to seeing the triple would only apply to non-conference and/or playoff opponents, IMO.

Carmel had been running less and less triple because it wasn't executed as well in recent years and they relied more on a power game to adjust. Offensive production has dropped significantly, and a 20-28 record with a single playoff win the last five seasons are not the desired results of a perennial playoff program.

Not saying this CCHS team will rip off 5-6 wins anytime soon, but I hear good things came from that week one game from some folks close to the program. Week one to week two can make a big difference at the HS level. We shall see.

I wondered when you would post something on this CCHS-Fan. Do you know if Bitto has some coaching help with the passing other than an OC that has run the option forever?

Good I hope not to. It's a friendly-ish rivalry, many people say the same thing about Fenwick families, so don't take things to serious.

I may as well add to the versatility of the topic. This summer I've read Wuthering Heights and also The Alchemist. If anyone would like to discuss either of those titles we can in this thread.

JCA has a mixture of white and blue collar kids, and am willing to bet they too are part of the ESCC. Good god, we have one down year...
