No excuses for Grayson. Like I said in a post on a different thread if he was an UNC player we would be all over him. Really think he should be suspended at least one game and it should come from Coach K. Grayson needs to get the message. Watching from the bench should do it. And I agree with Tiass about the target on his back. The refs are going to start looking his way. OFC

After seeing the full replay I recant my post and feel Grayson should not be suspended. He does need to cool it though. OFC

True, but I am not sure he is concerned about perception.I don't come down too hard on any of these kids for making mistakes or getting frustrated. I think the sum of the parts needs more consideration in this only show what you think will get a reaction type world we live in.
To be honest, I'm glad he's not overly preoccupied with his perception. He's willing to take on whatever criticism comes his way, and he doesn't seem to give a flying f---. I don't think that's a bad thing, but it means some of these incidents will get blown out of proportion since all eyes will be on him.

Anyone feel like they are feeding the hate of Grayson? They have tweeted the same video and text multiple times, have a little segment on the website. Look, I agree it's dirty, but to make it seem he is the only player in major college bball that does this? That's laughable and just unnecessary. Oh. I forgot. He's white, best player on Duke, and ESPN loves attention...
Like, no offense, but it was pretty bad and not his first time. I wouldn't be defending it if a UNC player did it. It has no place on a basketball court to be honest. = /

Some of you know that I keep rec league basketball scores where I live and have been doing it for several years. I've gotten to know the players and their personalities. There are a few that are very sensitive and or hot headed. opposing players have picked up on them for years and go right at them. It usually ends up with the sensitive player getting teed up, frustrated or even tossed. They just don't understand what's going on. I hope this is not happening to Grayson and he gets a handle on it. No telling what's going on the court we don't see or hear that the players do. Grayson just needs to let his play do the talking. Virtually nobody is defending the trip. He shouldn't have done it. But, the double standard crap and the media/announcer bias needs to stop. I watched the Duke/UK regional final live and multiple times since. It took 24 years for me to finally catch a replay of the blatant, deliberate shove in the back against Laetner just before the infamous stomp. Laetner literally went flying out of bounds with no call. No mention during the game or after.

A lecture on what's "pretty bad" from a fan of the dirtiest school in NCAA history. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Ok , I've composed myself. That was a helluva good laugh though. Thanks. Anyway , Grayson was wrong but it was in retaliation. Two wrongs don't make a right but at least try and have the APPEARANCE of objectivity by calling out the FSU kid for instigating it. Ignoring the fact he popped Grayson in the head doesn't change what happened. He trash-talked , leaned in on Grayson , popped 'im in the head then ran off. He got tripped. BOTH were wrong. And , again , given what we know about UNC-CHeat , it's a hoot havin' a hole chime in. Decades of massive corruption in the service of winning ballgames. To "be honest" I just think it has "no place on a basketball court." Or a football field...or a baseball diamond...or a soccer pitch...or any other playing surface belonging to the what? 18 or so sports involved in the worst recorded scam in NCAA history. Again....just bein' "honest." BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I am sorry. But, your entire post is just deflecting. Trying to minimize on his action by trying to say another action was more egregious.

It doesn't matter what any school, any player, any fan has done. The action in itself is wrong. Which you seem to admit. Unfortunately your defense mechanism is to make it seem like not a big de by trying to say other things caused it or went on elsewhere.

And, if you wish to debate UNC academics we can do that in another thread of your making. You don't have to bring it in to deflect off of his action. No school's actions makes another persons opinion invalid or contradictory.

I accept your apology. And , no , it's not deflecting. I said Grayson was wrong. And never did I say the FSU kid was more egregious so ya lied about that. But , again , I accept your apology. Lemme break it down for ya in terms so simple even a unx athlete could understand...

1) Grayson was wrong. No excuses.

2) The FSU kid instigated it. He , too , was wrong.

3) The story should've been about TWO players involved in some unnecessary end-of-game nonsense.

4) INSTEAD , ESPN ( helmed by a unx alum! ) turned a non-story into a referendum of Grayson and Duke. Go figure.

Funny ya should mention that....

BTW , the fact you think there's a "debate" to be had about any of unx's cheating is a hoot and a half. Speaks volumes. Gawd, even their fans are pro-cheating. #carolinaway

I'm not condoning it, but this "story" is mostly about the fact that the NFL season just ended and MLB / NBA playoffs have not yet begun -- meaning ESPN has a ton of time of time it needs to fill. The FSU guy was being a bit of a prick when Duke was trying to do the right thing by not running up the score on the last possession, and Grayson reacted by tripping him up. He shouldn't do it. But common. This was not a punch, an elbow to the head, a groin shot, a dangerous foul from behind on a fast-break, etc. etc. It was a dumb move from which everyone got up and moved on. I agree that it was an unnecessary extracurricular at the end of an easy game that, had there not been 3 seconds left, should have been a flagrant. Again, shouldn't happen. But, this is not that big of a deal. If this weren't Duke or Grayson Allen, nobody would have ever heard about this last second play. I was watching the live telecast and I had absolutely no idea that anything had happened -- and if it weren't Duke, everyone would have turned off their sets and moved on with their lives. It's inexplicable to me how ESPN ran with this yesterday.

And, I think that it wouldn't have been such a big deal - just two going at it... if Grayson hadn't done it before in another game already.

That really is the difference.

There was not a big hoopla the first time he did it.

What about the Iowa player who poked a few eyes last year? Did you go on their board and question the lack of suspension for him?

Hey guys, the ACC has sent down a letter of reprimand (by now, everyone knows) and stated that the issue is closed. Just a suggestion here, but how about let's let Coach K and Grayson handle this situation from here on out, let it go, and remember, It's gonna be OK.
Go Duke!!
