When the 20th best player is drafted 2nd overall in the draft, somebody is going to look really dumb.. either ESPN for ranking him so low.. or the team that drafts the 20th best player as the 2nd pick.

I know he’s struggled some this season but how could whoever made this list not have Cam on it...he’s still predicted to go in the top 5 or top 10 at worst in the draft even with struggling some this season

ESPN is garbage. They get the facts wrong half the time, they push garbage liberal political agendas all the time, and they go out of their way to be provocative. It's a shame more games are not on other networks. No one with a brain would put RJ at 20.

Truth and trust are from a bygone era. Getting clicks and/or eyeballs are the only objective. Remember, Tre didn't even get mentioned on the list of best defensive players.

Happ? Really?! Wow. He should play RJ is a little 1-on-1.

I agree RJ is too low. But what's wrong with Happ? Kid is a stud and a legit candidate for 1st Team All-American. He's averaging 18.3 ppg, 10.4 reb, 5.1 ast, 1.2 blk, and shooting 55% from the floor. And he's doing that with Wisconsin, a team with a very slow tempo that ranks 340th in possessions per game.

The list is measuring productivity on the college level. No way you'd see Ethan Happ or Markus Howard in the top 5 on any draft board. Jayson Tatum was 15th in voting for the All ACC teams just two years ago, for example. Certainly there wasn't 14 better pro prospects in the ACC (or the NCAA) in 2017.

The fact that Big Luke May isn't spots 1-4 on this list discredits the whole thing from the start ;)

Not sure how I’ve missed you posting, but you have the best handle on here. Haha! Please keep posting.

Happ has been excellent, but that dude can’t score from more than 4 feet from the basket. It’s actaully how often he gets shots on the interior.

But yeah, just stats alone, it’s pretty criminal that RJ is 20th, regardless of his shooting ability.

Also it’s funny that they are regarding Tre so highly when in three telecasts this week alone, analysts said that Duke is lacking a true point guard and/or the separating factor between Duke and Tennessee is how much better Jordan Bone. Sean Farnham even cited Bone being sixth in the nation in assist to turnover ratio in his reasoning why he’s better. The funny thing is, Tre is 4th. Nice research there Sean.

Regardless of whether or not we're talking college or NBA prospect, RJ should be higher than #20 on the list. I would agree with that. But I think they're partly taking into account importance to the team. I don't want that to sound like I'm questioning RJ's importance, because I'm not, but some of the players ahead of him on the list are maybe more 'valuable' to team success.

I mean, Duke does have three players on the top 20 list, after all.

The list says the 25 TOP players. Not the 25 Most Valuable players to their team. If the list was the 25 most valuable, than Tre should probably be #1.

When I hear 25 top players, I consider that another way of saying the 25 BEST players in the country.
With that said...any list for the 25 best players better have Zion 1 and RJ either 2 or 3.
This list is strictly for clicks....

This list only makes sense in that context -- importance to the team. But with that said, I would argue that Zion isn't the most important player. Why? Because we have RJ and Tre as well. I am not sure where Murray State is without Ja Morant or Wisconsin without Ethan Happ. It is just an odd list.

This was my thought too. If the list is most important to team, than I'm not sure Duke should have a single guy in the top 10.
Point being, there are 10 or so teams that have 1 MAIN guy, like Wisconsin with Happ or Marquette with Howard, St. Johns with Ponds, BC with Bowman etc. Those guys are all more important to their teams than any 1 Duke player is to Duke.

Long story short...whatever way ESPN tried to frame this, they are wayyyy off. And we have probably spent too much time dissecting a stupid list anyway.

Is anybody surprised? It’s ESPN! I’d be shocked if they didn’t say and do stupid things.

I’m sure it’s coming! They are probably coming up with a gameplan as we speak! They can’t be too mad though because I’m sure they are still excited after winning the National defensive player of the year award last year! They definitely deserved it.
