Actually the ports in those places aren't too bad. I've been all but Greece.
Venice - tourist central but its a cool place. Hit the popular places early. Doges Palace, Bridge of Sighs The Square, Rialtos Bridge, Canal, San Marco, Murano. We found a couple off the beaten paths restaurants. We didn't make it but Harry's Bar invented carpaccio and apparently it's great.
Split - Its interesting to see a true Eastern European city as you would imagine it. It's still very harsh looking in some places. Has a decent main beach and I think some nicer areas around the park. Big Roman Palace right in town that's cool to see other than it's basically a flea market now. May be a good place for a day trip outside the city. You're not missing much in split.
Kotor - One thing, hike to the St Giovanni Castle. It's way the hell up a mountain and I think you need to take a few euros to enter the gate. Believe it took us an hour or so to reach the top but the view is unreal. Got pictures on our Facebook pages. Grab a bite to eat and beer at the bottom. The trip in and out of that bay/port is just amazing. Hopefully you all see it close to dusk. Regardless grab a bottle of wine and post up on the top deck and enjoy.
Naples - Haven't been in the city but a day trip to Sorento, Amalfi, or Pasitano would be the play. Those places are post cards. Unbelievable. Those speed boats will zip you around the peninsula in no time.

Historical Split is basically Roman. This shops/vendors in the palace basement are kinda cool.
Venice: The Peggy Guggenheim Collection across the bridge from the Square is good - if you like art. If you have time to wonder around, some of the off beaten path churches' art is great. A $5/0.5 hr train to Padua gets you to the frescoes of the Scrovegni Chapel (great) & St. Anthony's Basilica & the city's great plazas.
Naples: You really want to get to Pompeii. Besides being cool, Pompeii will let you understand why railroad tracks today are the gauge they are.

THe only thing to do in Split, it's an industrial city, is see Diocletian's palace which you can walk around in a couple hours.
Rent a car and go tool around and get lost on the islands Brac or Hvar; you want to find yourself enjoying a meal (fish!) and sunset in some place that looks something like this...then you will know you did the must do there.
