My impressions of Devin Blakley: I have been able to see Devin Blakley live in game action multiple times over the past few seasons. I've also gotten to watch and evaluate Blakley at several various camps/showcase and 7on7 events as well. Blakley as a junior in 2017 was an All State, All Area and All Conference selection for the Class 6A runner up Road Runners. Blakely, who is drawing offers and interest mainly as a cornerback also played running back for Nazareth Academy and gained just over 1,000 yards in 2017.
Evaluation of Devin Blakley: Blakley has been one of the Road Runners top players and overall performers for the past two seasons and in most cases on both sides of the football. Blakley has lots of physical tools and upside for the college level. Blakley, who was also an impact player at running back has very good speed. strength and runs with good power and wiggle. Blakley on offense also shows very good balance, lean and is also just a higher level athlete. Blakley also shows good overall flexibility, can plant hit foot into the ground and will naturally turn/flip his hips. Blakley also has very good overall instincts and plays with a high football IQ. Blakley also has well above average ball skills and shows real leadership both on and off the field. On the defensive side of the football? Blakley is an experienced corner who has a great feel for the game. Blakley has terrific tools, is a physically mature kid who has strong ball skills and awareness. Blakley is a very strong finisher who is a positive in run support who will show well at the higher D1 level on the defensive side of the football as well.
Questions or possible room for improvement for Devin Blakley? Blakely will need to show the Power 5 schools a bit more when it comes to his overall top end speed this spring and summer. Blakley is also a ready made player physically and won't have the ability to add a ton of additional size.length once he's at the college level. What you see is what you'll get physically with Devin Blakley.
Projected level:
Rivals.com has Blakley ranked as a mid 3 star name and for the most part I agree, at least from an initial rankings perspective. I love watching this kid play. Blakley just has a lot to offer, plays with a high level of skill and confidence and has been a difference maker for Nazareth over the past few seasons in all aspects of the game. Blakley won't be a "bigger" corner that seems to be the rage these days at the higher level D1 power schools. However, I can see Blakley developing into a steady, longer term starter at say the mid to lower Big Ten schools. I'm also interested to see how well Blakley's overall game progresses this spring and summer and that growth and continued improvement in his game will no question play a factor if Blakley can boost his eventual ranking from say a mid level 3 star to an upper level 3 star.
