WaPo’s Ignatius: Trump’s Wiretapping Claim Has Morphed Into Legitimate Discussion About Surveillance

by PAM KEY2 Apr 2017486

Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” associate editor and columnist for The Washington Post David Ignatius said President Donald Trump’s tweets accusing former President Obama’s administration of wiretapping Trump Tower prior to the election “has morphed into an argument about privacy, about proper masking techniques.”

Ignatius said, “So under existing surveillance orders, the United States is listening to all kinds of diplomats, intelligence officials around the world under various authorities. And when that collection picks up incidentally the names of Americans, Joe Russia happens to be calling Joe America, Joe America’s name is masked so that person’s privacy is protected.”

“In certain circumstances when it’s necessary to understand who the conversation is between, the name is unmasked and then it’s a legal investigation beyond that,” he continued. “There are even more reasons. What’s happened this month is that what initially seemed a preposterous argument by Donald Trump that he had been wiretapped by President Obama illegally has morphed into an argument about privacy, about proper masking techniques, a very technical legal issue, and it’s now accepted I think as part of the mainstream set of issues that are going to be debated by the two intelligence committees. From Trump’s standpoint that’s a success.”

I also find it incredible the media's feigned ignorance over the allegations of Frakas, who essentially admitted how and the why information collected in that surveillance was illegally held and then distributed.

Incredible no one is being charged from those statements alone (which she quickly tried to walk back). however the cat is out the bag on this, and the more we find out I predict the more the Obama Administration will have to answer for.

It's not Trump and his alleged collusion with Russians to change the results of the election, it's Obama and his colluders in the "deep state USA" who tired to rig Trump's legitimate election and discredit his candidacy.

Sessions will have to order a Grand Jury to investigate. She should be one of the first witnesses. Fox is reporting they know who the leaker is and it is a high level intelligence officer, but not with the FBI. My guess is either Brennan or Clapper.

Personally, I am skeptical of any Trump team collusion with the Russians. They didn't need anything from Trump's campaign. They were going to meddle regardless just as they are in France today. But the dissemination, unmasking and leaking is a key issue. Leaking is criminal and how far up the food chain does this go.

I don't think there is any question someone or perhaps many in the Obama administration both knew of and conducted this illegal surveillance...for a specific purpose. Logic leads me to conclude they also approved of that purpose, likely with the Blessing of higher ups in the Obama Justice department.

We will soon find out both who and what for?

Empaneling a Grand Jury is crucial.

I think as more evidence is gathered from principles who will be under Oath to explain what they know and did in this case, this is the next logical step Pax. As you know, a Grand Jury first must have evidence to indict, and that evidence must be proof of either criminal activity or intent. I believe they will have both once more details are known.

Actually, I believe the Grand Jury is frequently used to discover facts by placing witnesses under oath without attorney's present. They can issue subpoenas and work with the FBI. In other words, the FBI uses the Grand Jury to give them what they need for the investigation, including placing witnesses under oath.

Yes...true, but first there must be credible evidence of criminality to empanel them to hear testimony to back up any indictments. I think all of this is coming, if Sessions and investigators don't already have it.

I think we have that with the illegal leak of Flynn's name. A felony has already been committed.

Yes Sir, you are correct. She (Frakas) is in hot water by her loose toungue trying to defend her loyalty to the "deep State" but she is a very small Minnow in this cesspool of corrupt bigger Fish.

When this swamp is drained, it's going to be a rank stink.

Apparently the NYT has names (over who unmasked Flynn) and is ready to drop them. This thing is about to blow.

Indictments likely, then plea bargains to get higher ups. Are you ready for the Left's meltdown on this board once their Defenses for all of this illegality are exploded?

I think it's going to be an unraveling of epic proportions.....EMS units standing by to issue triage[cheers]
