Should be a fun melt down day on the board when that OR pops back up on the depth chart.
And would that meltdown have any chance of helping the team in any way?Should be a fun melt down day on the board when that OR pops back up on the depth chart.
Who or what is "OR"?Should be a fun melt down day on the board when that OR pops back up on the depth chart.
Post #3Kirk is gonna ride Brown to a 9-3 regular season and say “man this was a great year” instead of riding Hecklinski to the playoffs and a 11-1 regular season record.
Edit to add: after those 2 losses that Brown gave us we will get the *snort* “that’s football” when asked why Kirk isn’t playing the objectively better QB
Rather than listing a clear starter @ QB it will beWho or what is "OR"?
Could be, or it could be Heck. Personally, I don't think there will be an "OR" designation. It won't be. It will be Brown.
Did KF "pick" Brown? Or did TL?Anyone who has been an Iowa fan for the entire Kirk Ferentz tenure knows by now that once he's picked his QB, that is the guy. I know, I know he has changed his mind a couple of times (Stanzi over Christiansen and Beathard over Ruddock) but for him to declare Hecklinski over Brown, Hank would have to completely fall apart (throw interceptions, lose games, etc..) but he has been good enough that Kirk won't make any changes right now...
There is no reason to believe that Ferentz will game plan to use both QBs. The starter will play until injured or a victory is in hand. Would love to see the backup get a series each half just don’t see KF allowing it.i feel like brown and heck are different enough that opponents have to account for both. it's a good luxury to have if we actually use them judiciously. i actually don't care who the starter is but this year there is zero need to ride one guy through majority of a game if he is not on. two bad drives and it should be time to swap...
Good point. We see examples all across college football (more than ever I think) with the backup coming in and proving a huge spark. I hope KF and TL keep an open mind if our starter (whoever it is) struggles. I also think this is a good point. I don’t think KF will gameplan to use both. But I sure hope he is willing to make an in game change if one is needed! I also think Heck has earned the start too! There is no reason to believe that Ferentz will game plan to use both QBs. The starter will play until injured or a victory is in hand. Hecklinski has earned the start IMO.
The only one of those examples that was a strict sub was Carr. Oregon apparently has less depth at qb than Iowa 3 years ago.Good point. We see examples all across college football (more than ever I think) with the backup coming in and proving a huge spark. I hope KF and TL keep an open mind if our starter (whoever it is) struggles. The last couple weeks in the BIG alone gave us:
- Michigan’s Carr vs PSU
- Oregon’s Raiola vs Neb (hahahahaha)
- Washington’s Brown vs us
Not college, but did you all see what JJ McCarthy did in the 4th Q!? Something about coming in and being able to just let it rip and not think can be a huge benefit.
Split QB's in the backfield, shotgun snap to whoever, other qb swings wide and behind the ball. Double pass is always on the table. So simple a dipsh*t typing on his phone can set it up.I'm hoping they throw everyone a curveball, and we get an AND for the first time.

Utah has done it quite well this year, their QBs are mobile though.Split QB's in the backfield, shotgun snap to whoever, other qb swings wide and behind the ball. Double pass is always on the table. So simple a dipsh*t typing on his phone can set it up.
Edit* I am the dipsh*t in this scenario. Just to clarify.
Shocked that OSU turned to a 5'11" 206lb true frosh when sayin got hurt.Who would have ever thought that during anytime this season our QB situation would be better than Ohio State's? Their backup was Bacon Hill level bad.
I have no idea what they were doing unless St. Clair absolutely blows in practice. They have a 5* backup qb that looked good in the spring.Who would have ever thought that during anytime this season our QB situation would be better than Ohio State's? Their backup was Bacon Hill level bad.
Nope, they liked Fahey's progression better. Kind of bonkers.Shocked that OSU turned to a 5'11" 206lb true frosh when sayin got hurt.
They have St.Clair who was the #4 overall qb recruit a couple years ago...was he hurt?
It doesnt matter to me as they have both played well but not all the time. And the coaches talk like they are both on a short leash. Cant afford to fall behind by much on the road so got to start fast. I think Lester can scheme some fairly good, easy throws early to get whichever starter in a rhythmIt won't be. It will be Brown.
Beathard over Rudock was not a mid-season change. Rudock played really bad in his last game the bowl game. I hope Greg Davis had something to say to Kirk in January 2015 about CJB having the much better upside and that decision got the hawks a massive undefeated season.Anyone who has been an Iowa fan for the entire Kirk Ferentz tenure knows by now that once he's picked his QB, that is the guy. One series each half doesnt do much except change the cadence rhythm probably. If the starter is playing well the starter will go the distance and I dont care who it is. My mantra has always been even if you like a player and think they are pretty good, if a 2nd teamer beats them out then your team should be better off. There is no reason to believe that Ferentz will game plan to use both QBs. The starter will play until injured or a victory is in hand. Would love to see the backup get a series each half just don’t see KF allowing it.

I just looked up JJ McC's stats and yes, very good, were the giants behind when he came in?Good point. If Heck is eventually QB1 even after Hank is 100% healthy, it will be the first time under KF that Iowa changes QB1 mid-season without injury forcing the issue.Anyone who has been an Iowa fan for the entire Kirk Ferentz tenure knows by now that once he's picked his QB, that is the guy.
I don’t see a downside to that. Also, keeping the backup involved in game action every week is a benefit….. if forced into full-time action later in the season, the experience under center will be useful to the entire offense. One series each half doesnt do much except change the cadence rhythm probably.
It’ll be interesting to see if they try and pick some spots to put him back there. My assumption is it’ll be RVZ until James can start showing some consistency and less critical spotsapparently enough of the Evan James experiment at PR
We shall see, I thought I heard a coach or media member quote a coach recently saying "James can def improve but big play potential is there so keeping him back there..."apparently enough of the Evan James experiment at PR
