I'll tell you who he reminds me of. Donovan Mitchell. They way they run, the way they jump...even the way they dribble. Their on-court mannerisms are so similar. Both are big guards w/ great vision that play above the rim, can get into the lane whenever they want, finish thru contract, make difficult shots look easy, and shoot it from 3 when asked. What's scary to me is, I actually think David's a better 3 pt shooter than Don was at this stage of his career, he's a couple inches taller, and his court vision is off the charts. If we can keep this kid for 2 more years, it's hard telling what kind of player he will grow into.

I don't see it. David Johnson is much longer than Donovan Mitchell. Johnson reminds me of David Johnson. He doesn't remind me of anyone I can recall.

I agree, hard to think of a former UofL player to compare him to for me. Pushupman and others have mentioned Lancaster Gordon, he played here when I was just a wee lad.

Gordon had decent enough handles but he was more of a 2 guard. He was a deadly shooter from 18-20 feet.

Don't see it. Still good though. Lots of potential for himself - and to unload others to excel.

Just think if Scrubb doesn’t go pro at the end of this year and you have Johnson at 6’5” and Scrubb at 6’6” on the floor together again. What a nightmare that would be for our opponents.
And a senior Malik guarding the rim.

Williams
Scrubb
Johnson
Williamson
Perry

that’s a very athletic 5. Depth will be a big issue, but that will be a very versatile 5.

I think David has the potential to be an NBA Guard like Donovan. However, he is athletic but he doesn’t have as much bounce as Don. But he makes up for it in length.

Maybe not as much bounce as Don but he does have ridiculous bounce. I saw this dude in warmups go off the backboard between the legs....with ease.
He definitely can play above the rim. No doubt. It’s great to have a 6’5” PG with handles, passing, and elevation like that. After the last 2 games I’m revising my previous statement to say he is a 3 year player minimum to a likely 2 year player. DJ will likely get drafted if he can play a full season next year as the starter.
