I can literally feel the wind blowing in some good time changes. Most of us have wanted Mike out for several years and it's happened. I think Riley will bring in someone much like himself, young & aggressive. I'm looking forward to the top defensive recruits lining up to attend OU much like the QBs, RBs, and WRs have done on offense.

It's a great time to be a Sooner fan!

Here is to hoping that we see some improvement in Ft Worth, but not going to expect huge improvement through the rest of the 2018 season. We aren't going to see a big change in defensive scheme. There just isn't sufficient practice time to make huge changes. The NCAA limits physical contact during the season to one day a week. That isn't conducive to big changes.

What I do hope is that some things can be simplified so that kids don't have to think so much and just react and turn loose their natural ability and react quicker. We have tried to be multiple with the 3-4 and 4-3. I hope we settle on one or the other and perfect what we are doing. I am betting we see more 4 - 2 - 5 and maybe 4 - 3 - 4.

I hope most sooner fans will be a little patient and give Riley and his coaches a little room and time for improvement.

I think for the most part all we want is to see this defense improve. I do believe that sometimes change can help accomplish this. If Ruffin can somehow cut down on the big plays and creat more pressure up front thats a win-win.

I hope OU wins out and gets a rematch with the Horns but I am not sure at this point if the defense can improve enough to hold off WV or Tech. Next week vs TCU after this bye week could tell us a lot.

The bye week could not have come at a better time. At least it gives the Defensive Coaches a little more time to make some changes/adjustments. I really do believe the D will be better moving forward, not night and day difference but I think we may be surprised by the difference. At least I hope so. Positive Vibes man, Positive Vibes. :)

I kind of think the bye week prompted the firing. Early word after just one practice is that all positions are open and up for grabs. And there is a lot of enthusiasm etc. I'm not sure how long that type of emotion will last or work. Time will tell. But they all want to play for the B12 title again. So anything can happen.

Riley has OU on the right track. The problems with the OU defense over the last 6 to 7 or more years has been a combination of coaching and talent. Riley has had a great influence on the talent side. His last two classes have seen an influx of better talent. The 2019 class of defensive players is on par with the last two. 2020 is still an unknown. With the firing of Mike Stoops, Lincoln now has the chance to bring in a great DC. I hope that Lincoln takes his time to find the absolute best young DC out there. Joe is going to have to allow him to pay whatever the going price is to hire and keep a top tier DC.

I don't know if Ruffin and Bob are the right choices. However, I think what they do over the rest of this season will give us some time to see for ourselves. I do know that Ruffin made a big difference for Leach at Tech.

I trust in Riley and think he will get the job done.

Exciting times indeed. Don't write off this year just yet fellas. You seem to be forgetting that the Sooner offense can and will outscore anyone remaining on the schedule, including a repeat with Texas in the championship game. The offense is that good. Just improve on the defensive side a little and it's no contest.

We seemed destined to close out season in Morgantown. A game that could be altered by winter weather. Then if we scale that hurdle, I suppose we play them again or the Shorthorns. Looks like a conference championship is the prize this year. Even though several in top 10 will likely stumble before final bell tolls.

Two things of note...

A: Mike Stoops' football acumen > Ruff (Even though he seemed to coach over the players' heads)

B: Bob Diaco is a straight up 3-4 guy. You dudes need to unwrap your head around alignment/fronts. We are failing at simple assignment football. FYI you can bring more creative blitz packages from the 3-4.

Alignments? Fronts? Schemes? Are you kidding? If Ruff can get the guys to tackle ... I'll take it as it's a start.

By young and “like him”, don’t give up on Diaco yet. He’s both young and a good Riley fit.

If he has merited staying on board...sure Diaco can stay. But as a small part of a failed regime, we better get a new regime in that can take the Sooners to that higher level where the offense certainly is.

Facts on B. 3-4 is ideal for Big 12 too especially when you can play a Ryan Jones at an outside spot.
