I just can't figure out why Coach Brooks and coaching staff only won nine games their first three years at UK?
Most of the players in that game were Jr. and Sr's. Most of our players are Freshmen and Sophmores, with a great recruiting class coming in. Probably the best OL players we have recruited in my lifetime, which is a long time.
OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
I appreciate the improvement in recruiting and players but for whatever reason this team has shown that better players do not always result in a better team. EKU had a lot less talent and depth but can you say we were the better team that night?
Well we will see in five years, that's the time frame it took Coach Brooks get that kind of win over LSU, and then he only had three wins in the SEC for 2007. I bet you were ready to give Coach Brooks the boot after his first three years as our head coach, please tell the truth, didn't you!!!KWH...Your words "we have better coaches and players today than Brooks had when they beat Lsu"...MS is not half the coach RB was and neither is this staff....and again please name me players from this team that would start for that one
As long as you're on a roll care to give us your guess at next season's W - L record ?If you aren't excited about the football team, then something is wrong with you. We have a great bunch of coaches, coaches who were successful at other programs, and are well respected by their peers. This is evident by how many programs have tried to poach some of our coaches, but Mitch put up the money to keep them.
We also went out and got an OC and a QB coach, who are experienced and well thought of in the industry. Several schools have tried to get our TOP recruiter, the last being Michigan, but NO, we kept him. He turned them down.
Other coaches on Coach Stoops staff had offers from other schools, but they stayed with Coach Stoops and the CATS.
Take a look at our recruiting. Were beating Ohio State, Alabama, etc. out of recruits. How long has it been since that happened. When is the last time Kentucky put three players on the Army Bowl? I'm 76 and I don't ever remember that happening.
I know my glass is always half full. It was that way when I was flying fighters for the Air Force, and it will never change. I love looking through "Rose colored glasses".
I'm EXCITED about the future of the University of Kentucky football, and if your not, I don't know what to tell you. Fill that glass HALF FULL!

It is probably going to get worse before it gets better. And yes, that is largely due to the absolute mess created by Joker and Barney. I am hopeful that the phenomenal recruiting is going to pay off by 2017.Two consecutive 2nd half season collapses and pretty much whipped around by a middle of a pack ACC team in our last game. Trip to Bama, UF, UT, and UL.
Sorry bud. I can't be optimistic
Recruiting is nothing without coaching and disipline. ..It is probably going to get worse before it gets better. And yes, that is largely due to the absolute mess created by Joker and Barney. I am hopeful that the phenomenal recruiting is going to pay off by 2017.
Cause it's all about us. I confess this is my first gut reaction too but have to remind myself they're not losing just to ruin my day. As a fan it's my job to SUPPORT as much as it is to criticize. That means recognizing the good things they are doing and it's ignorant to ignore that we are bringing in more talent then ever to this program and that is reason for some real optimism despite the shortcomings so far.I'll get excited when the team earns excitement from me. OP has a very low standard for the word "great" if UK's coaches are great. If UK's coaches are great God knows what adjective the OP would use to describe most SEC opponents and Petrino and staff at UL. It's amazing how two chokejobs to Vandy and UL change most fans outlook (me included), as if we just win one of those very winnable games I think people would probably be more on board with the OP's logic. I'll wait and see.

I like your post. It shows what new coaches have to go through before they can turn a team around. No matter how good the coach and his staff are, it just takes time. The big difference: Brooks was an NFL caliber coach. Though he didn't win a load of games while there, you don't get to that level without knowing the game inside and out and knowing how to coach. I was at those early games. RB didn't have the talent those first few years. He had the transition struggles most coaches/teams have when coaching changes occur; He had to deal with ncaa sanctions including losses of scholarships. He had to deal with TWO other coach's players. There may be other reasons he didn't win a lot those first years.
CMS may end up being a very fine college coach. He's demonstrated he can recruit. That's key as you can win some games just with good coaching, but you won't win consistently without superior players. Will he be the level coach RB was? Too early to tell. RB probably coached 20 years at the college level before making it to the nfl.

I don't know, we spotted them a two TD lead and came back to win, what do you think? Do you really think they would have beat us if we had played again?

Sorta like UL spotted us three TDs ...
Granted wins are so few I'll take any but getting behind to tie EKU and having to pull it out with 14 seconds left in regulation to tie and then win it in overtime against a 6-5 team that got their coach fired is not something I feel like bragging about.
Personnel wise they only had one player who should be able to play for us. And their second best couldn't.
Ans as far as "Do you really think they would beat us if we played again ... Seems like I heard that one too after that remarkable similar game against WKU in CWS a few years earlier.
Few thought that was possible but we all know how that turned out the next year in Nashville.
This is Kentucky football you know.
ULL spotted us three TDs and our vastly superior personnel pulled that one out with less than a minute left.
When we start taking care of business and quite playing down to our competition my attitude will start to change.
Till then ... Show me.
PS-Muschamp had vastly superior players at UF and we know how that turned out.
