A big part of his legacy is going to be that he couldn't win the big ones. Fair or not.

One National Title back in 2000, a few big 12 titles in between then and now when mostly the only serious competition was texas, has lost more big games than won so what NFL team will hire him? Sorry I just do not see him going to the NFL as I believe that ship has sailed a while back. Had he won another NC lets say vs Florida then that would have been his best chance at the NFL but we all know what happened there. I honestly see Bob at OU until we see something similar to what happened to Mack at texas. He will have a pretty good sized nest egg built up by then and will probably be hired at espn when he is forced out but I don't think anyone at espn likes him or his attitude. I just don't see that scenario playing out. Most likely when he leaves OU he will probably just retire altogether but that will probably be a while. I also do not think Bob will win another NC at OU and I have not seen anything the last few years to lead me to believe a big 12 title will happen either. Its been downhill for a while for OU and the brakes are out.

Interesting thoughts all the way around. Personally, I think he will decide, and it could be much "Sooner" than most of us want. I'm VERY comfortable he's not losing sleep over fan opinions. However, if his boss is calling the shots influenced by boo$ster$, I don't see him as the type that will tolerate that kind of "fun" for long. Again, just speculation, but a cause of concern for me personally. I'd hate to see that happen.

Hopefully, he'll once again make some lemonade out of lemons. Hope so.

I think this is part of Stoops problem. I don't necessarily mean he should give a rip what us lowly, irritating fans think or say, however it is part of his arrogance that he will play the violin while the titanic is sinking. He would not have made any changes from last year if it weren't for him being encouraged to do so by his bosses and boosters. The worse part is now he is an excuse making machine and back in the good ole Stoops days there were no excuses and we came ready to play and hit you in the mouth. Nowadays we aren't feared like we used to be. Part of that is the fact that we are in a crap conference that Stoops is having a hard time recruiting to. I truly believe if OU could go the the SEC today that Stoops would have top 5 recruiting classes again immediately and we all know Stoops is a good coach so we would be winning big time again on the big stage and be right there with Alabama as the big dog in the SEC and Nationally. I believe Bob could win another NC if OU were to go SEC while he is still the coach. Unfortunately, as long as Boren is around we are more interested in becoming just another liberal university like Cal or Wisconsin so Boren wants OU to be in the company of a conference such as the Pac12 or Big 10 which I think is a big mistake.

Barry played 2 tough games a year and Stoops has 5-6.... Times have changed people especially with recruiting and the way the game is played including the way the game is being officiated. Stoops will be fine but it's going to take players who have a passion for OU and who have killer instinct.

Who should Bob hire to do his job for him then? He is good at excuses these days so please don't give him more excuses for his next press conference. But,but...we beat Alabama.

That's right, and it's a damn shame the state only has 3.9 million folks.
I say that in reference to the Okies that OU has had always seemed to distinguish themselves in their college careers at OU.
Some did that in a negative way for sure, but more times than not you've had your Rocky Calmus', Teddy Lehmans and a long list of others that played for OU just a little more intensely than their out of state counterparts.

They grasp the tradition better than some well meaning cat from California would, and that's OK, we wouldn't expect the Cali kid to 'get it' as much.

So you actually think that it's worse for fans to discuss their team's loss than the team losing?
Got it. Now I know why you think OU has the best linebackers in the country.

Ya pretty sad that there are actually people who think that way and call themselves OU fans. They should move to Stoolwater and root for that team.

Switzer only played two or three teams a year? NOOOOOO.
Go back and look at the Big Eight in the seventies. It makes the current SEC look like a charity bizarre. The SEC has never had anything like #1, 2, and #3 (and the Big Eight beat SEC teams in bowl games to confirm that). Moreover, the Big Eight had teams like Colorado, Missoui, and Kansas knocking off the Michigans, Penn States and Ohio States of the world. OU and Nebraska were always in the top ten, usually in the top five. Texas was still Texas, and it took Switzer to knock them off enough times to get rid of Royal. They were a national power. Then, we had teams like USC, Ohio State, Miami, Florida State, Stanford, etc., every year, usually more than one.

In his first year, Switzer played five top twenty teams, tying one. In the second, he played three (Baylor won the SWC that year), winning all of them. In his third year, he played four and another in a bowl game, winning all of them. He was now what, about 32-1-1 having played thirteen games against top 20 (not 25) teams.

We weren't playing with parity then. Iowa State might battle for sixth in the conference, but they could have been in the first division of any other conference. Missouri upset some SEC or Big Ten power every year. The Big Twelve is more like the Big Seven, not the Big Eight.

If Bob leaked it out that he would entertain the jobs at either or both USCs, he would get a call pronto, and get at least what he is making at OU, IMO. You don't think South Carolina couple/would scrape up $5M for Bob Stoops? Of course, Bob wouldn't be interested but to say he wouldn't be in demand is kinda silly. About the only place Bob couldn't find a job is at ESPN.
