Bama fan who hasn’t been over here in a while. Still a ways off, but given your recruiting class and overall roster what are you guys thinking his role will be??

Respectfully are you upset Oats couldn’t keep him there?

I would love to still have him at Bama. Would he have been a starter at Bama this season? I don’t know. While Bama has made a much bigger commitment to basketball they apparently are still at a place where they can’t just throw piles of money at everybody. Had they won out on Mo they probably don’t have enough in the tank to get Philon back (just speculating). I think Mo is poised to show out he just needs to be somewhere that he can get his minutes up. Had he gone somewhere like Nebraska or Mississippi St and gotten 30 minutes a game I think he’d be a 15/10/3 kind of guy on most nights.

I expect him to be the trash man / energy guy. Get the tough rebounds and be a pest on defense.

This, but Pope has said he has the green light to shoot the ball as well. His teammates (both current and ex) have spoken about how he has more offensive ability than he’s shown thus far. Will be interesting to see if he can keep up that same 3pt % with more attempts.

I think he starts at the 4 and brings a DeAndre Liggins/MKG vibe that we haven't had in years. Can be a gritty, aggressive, defensive pest who has a sneaky offensive game. Not prolific on offense, mind you, but sneaky. Liggins could hit the three on occasion and light up the scoreboard every once in a while. MKG could go get his buckets too.

I think he'll also see some time at the 3 and be the guy who can switch onto anyone. Should be a solid piece of Pope's puzzle.

I had been thinking about MoD a couple days before this thread and I was wondering about his offense since we know he was one of the premier interior defenders and rebounders in college last year. I knew he was a 46% 3 point shooter on a small number of attempts per game and, based on his prior history and free throw percentages(and poor form), I assumed last year's 3 point shooting was an outlier like pretty much everybody assumes.

So I went to an AI chat and gave them all his percentages for the last 2 years(3 point and free throw percentages and number of attempts) and described his form as below average and asked for 3 point shooting projections for this season. Based on projections of higher volume(2-3 attempts per game), they projected him at between 33% and 38% for the upcoming season. Those percentages are in line with what I'd expect; we know he's unlikely to be a 46% shooter(based on his free throw shooting) but he's also not likely to be a 25% shooter either.

If he is a 35% 3 point shooter that should make him one of the better all around fours in the country, considering his rebounding and defense.

This! I, too, think he starts at the 4.

He will need to overcome his propensity to be in foul trouble to average 30 minutes a game anywhere. Thankfully we have other options if he can’t.

I expect him him to bring tons of energy, emotion, passion and leadership with a high motor who does all the dirty work. I think he begins the year starting at the 4. (I’ll speak on that in a min) but I’d say we’re talking somewhere in the 8-9 pts 7-8 rbs. 1 ast. 1 blk. 35-40% from 3 at a low ish volume. With some nights where he goes 15 and 10 in some big games. I think he’s gonna be great in the role we’re asking of him. Now here’s what I meant by begins the year. With Jelevic. A potential superstar who can shoot. Dribble and pass at 6’11. True floor stretcher. I could see him forcing his way into the lineup. With Kam. Oweh even Noah. I don’t see Mo playing much 3 but he will here and there most likely. But I’m happy with him. I think he’ll be a great role player. It’ll be exciting to see him and JQ at the 4 and 5 with both being tough defenders. Rebounders. And JQ’s shot blocking ability.

Won’t prognosticate stats as so many moving parts but I do know that Dioubate is the type of player you always encounter on a winning team where much of the value isn’t in the box score. We haven’t had a guy like that healthy in a while (I’d argue Thiero when healthy was of same ilk). He’ll be given the opportunity to expand the more tangible part of his game. I’m excited he’s here. He, along with Williams, Aberdeen and Quaintance, immediately flipped the defensive script of this team.

I think some people are a wee bit high on Jelevic. It takes most Euro guys a little while to adapt to the US game. I am glad to have the kid, but I think some are expecting a little too much year 1, and are going to be disappointed. Mo is just a winner. he does what it takes game to game to win. Jelevic is NOT taking his minutes.

I think most are cautiously optimistic.
