I’m a Rutgers alum who got into Rutgers during the GS years but have been a passionate ND since birth. Been following this board for the first time since the start of the season.

I was wondering what expectations for a new coach would be in say year 4 if we played our current schedule. It’s certainly hard to see how GS or anybody else could consistently win more than 6 games per year.

Would most RU fans be happy with 6 or 7 wins?

6-7 wins/year on average would satisfy many, especially in view of the last 5-6 years. Throw in an 8 or 9 win season every 3-4, years, mixed in with a 4-5 win season on the same frequency, and that would be fine with me.

Beat Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, and Maryland regularly. Beat Minnesota, Michigan State, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern 50% of the time. Beat Penn State, Wisconsin once every 4 or 5 years. Beat Michigan and Ohio State once every 7-10 years.

I want us to win games of course. As many as possible. BUT,EVEN MORE THAN THAT i want to watch a team that is playing at their highest level. If that brings wins, great. I want every team that plays RU to know that there are no gimmees anymore and that if they don't play at their best then they are very likely to give up a win to RU.

I want to see a team, win or lose, that looks like it belongs on the field in every game. That’s why I, and many others, are so high on coach Pike. The MBB team over his tenure has become a competitive team in almost every game. Even though the record didn’t change over the last two seasons the team has. You can see and feel the difference and this year could be the year they get over the hump and see the post season. That is what I expect from a coach after four years. Simply put: a team that belongs on the field with its peers in the conference.
