Kudos to Fenwick for taking this to court. This was bigger than winning a football game. The Fenwick players incurred damages at the hands of the IHSA referees by their ignorance of a rule. More importantly in my opinion they were denied due process by the IHSA admitting they incurred these damages and IHSA choosing to ignore them their due process (no hearing, no protest process). They ruled PN continues on end of story. Fenwick did what's right by standing up for the student athletes.

Fenwick's lawyer made a decent case. IIRC, his three points were: a) game was over b) contract IHSA bylaws vs NFHS code and c) due process.
The IHSA lawyer didn't make much of a case, relying primarily on "call stands, sorry."

Courtroom was packed.

In the end, I sense the judge realized that she would be throwing a sports contest into disarray if she were to step out and decide for Fenwick, so she let it pass.

Big news was that Fenwick's principal resigned his post at the IHSA over the whole thing.

I agree wholeheartedly. IHSA and refs left them no other choice.
They probably knew going in they had no chance of winning but they stood up for their kids. And their principal resigned his position on the IHSA board.
Bravo for him as well.
The IHSA rarely if ever puts the kids first IMHO. They certainly didn't do so in the case . How in the world can a team "win" a game in regulation BY THE RULES and have it taken away from them by incompetent refs and spineless bureaucrats?
Only in IHSA world.
As soon as they discovered the error the proper thing to do would have been to immediately contact both schools and point out the mistake.
Apologize for the error and declare Fenwick the winner BY THE RULES.
Instead the Insane High School Association of Illinois finds a way to piss off EVERYONE.
Good job guys.
