The finalists have been announced for the Hodge Trophy, and fan voting is now live.

The finalists are:

- Mitchell Mesenbrink, 165, PSU (27-0)
- Carter Starocci, 184, PSU (26-0)
- Wyatt Hendrickson, 285, Okla. St. (27-0)

Stats for each of the finalists, and a means to vote for the one you think should win, are at:

The winner of the fan vote will receive 5 first-place votes. It appears that you can vote one time per e-mail address.

Fan voting is live though Friday, March 28, at 5 pm CST (I have no idea why they are listing a CST time)

The winner of the 2025 Hodge Trophy will be announced at noon CST on Monday, March 31.

Vote early and vote often. :ROFLMAO:

Tough, tough vote. The Lions have two worthy candidates (will Penn State fans in essence split their votes?). A five time national champion may never be seen again, at least for any foreseeable timeline. That's very important.
OTOH, Hendrickson beat a guy who was presumed to be "unbeatable" by most wrestling fans. In addition to beating Steveson, he also defeated the returning national champion. (Yes, I know that Greg was not healthy, but that isn't going to be part of the decision for too many voters.)

Carter will not win the fan vote, no matter how deserving. All the anti-PSU votes will go for Hendrickson. We will have to count on more rational minds. How many voters are there for the Hodge?

Hodge voters are comprised of:

- a retired college coach from each region of the country
- a representative from each of the national wrestling organizations
- select national media members
- past Hodge winners

In 2024, it appears that their were 59 votes (Aaron Brooks received 48 of them). I believe, though it's not clearly spelled out, that this (59) includes the 5 votes from the fan voting. Brooks would have a vote this year, so I believe that means there are 55 voters this year.

Also, while I know it doesn’t count on their record, Kerkvliet beat a healthy Hendrickson handily at the AllStar Classic. There doesn’t seem to be any recognition of the fact that Hendrickson beat a much less than healthy Kerk at nationals, they only talk about Hendrickson winning.

Hendrickson was not healthy at last years all-star classic.

So Hendrickson won the fan vote. From the article:

The heavyweight champion also won the official Hodge Fan Vote, receiving 16,001 votes out of the total 32,961 verified fan votes that were cast online March 25-28. Starocci finished second in the fan vote with 13,108, while Mesenbrink finished third with 3,852.

What am I missing? Or, did they not proof their article:

Taylor, now officially the only recipient of the Dan Hodge Trophy (a two-timer, claiming the honor in 2012 and 2014) to successfully coach a student-athlete to also receive the award, added, “This season was a great first step in building to where we want to be, and Wyatt played a big role in making that happen. He is an incredible representative of our program, and I’m excited to see the things he continues to do moving forward.”

Yet at the bottom of the article:

So CS won it in 2000, 2001, and 2002, and then coached DT (2X), Zain (2X), Bo and AB (I'm not sure why WIN's past results don't show the 2024 winner) when they won the Hodge. smh

The original article has now been edited. That key word "second" now appears.

"Taylor, now officially the second recipient of the Dan Hodge Trophy (a two-timer, claiming the honor in 2012 and 2014) to successfully coach a student-athlete to also receive the award,..."

Have they published the vote count yet? Wonder if the fan vote is what decided it. Was it always 5 votes? I feel like it was only 1 votes at some point?

Aaron Brooks won this award in 2024 and they can't update the Hodge past winners in a year. Starocci would have gotten a split it a minimum if he went to any other school and was from the midwest. Doesn't matter, Carter is the only one with five and we know who the most dominant wrestler in 2025 is.

Hendrickson is this year's winner:

100 percent knew it! We canceled each other out plus the media build up because they built Stevenson, only 2 time winner, a god!! Heck they gave him the number 1 ranking over kerk at beginning of season. Saying that, it was a tough year and I think Carter should have won last year with his placement of 9th and then beating all the great wrestlers he shouldn’t have had to face.

CStar can be added to the KiJana Carter- Larry Johnson club

I can’t hate Hendrickson, but for f*ck’s sake.
He doesn’t even know the flag code. You would think this would have been tought to him at USAFA...

The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery", or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins). Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. (He used it as a cape, ffs.)

The flag should never be drawn back or bunched up in any way. (Did you see how he handed it to his coach?)

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations. (At least he did not wear it while running around the mat before the match... or wait did he.)

Also, not necessarily his fault, but after he bunched the flag up and handed it to his assistant coach, the coach let the flag touch the mat. Everyone know the flag is not to touch the ground.

I don't hate him either, but he should know this better. And so should most of the people in this country.

This was not my usual snark.
