100 percent knew it! We canceled each other out plus the media build up because they built Stevenson, only 2 time winner, a god!! Heck they gave him the number 1 ranking over kerk at beginning of season. Saying that, it was a tough year and I think Carter should have won last year with his placement of 9th and then beating all the great wrestlers he shouldn’t have had to face.
Feel like the Heisman voting in 1994.

He doesn’t even know the flag code. You would think this would have been tought to him at USAFA...

The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery", or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins). Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. (He used it as a cape, ffs.)

The flag should never be drawn back or bunched up in any way. (Did you see how he handed it to his coach?)

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations. (At least he did not wear it while running around the mat before the match... or wait did he.)

Also, not necessarily his fault, but after he bunched the flag up and handed it to his assistant coach, the coach let the flag touch the mat. Everyone know the flag is not to touch the ground.

I don't hate him either, but he should know this better. And so should most of the people in this country.

This was not my usual snark.
The guy is spending the next 20 years in the Air Force. Think he just did more for Air Force advertising and recruiting than the money they spent the last 5 years. So we can cut him some slack.

How much disrespect for the flag is acceptable? Do ends justify means? Do people that commit to serving in the armed forces have the right to be disrespectful to the flag?

I doubt "we" will have any impact on him even realizing that what he did was against the the flag code, which was approved by the congress, that was created by the constitution that he took an oath to uphold.

He didn’t disrespect anything. Stop it. He draped the flag over him and saluted his commander in chief. Did you want him to burn it like so many others do? Get over it .

I guess every American that wins an Olympic event is disrespecting the flag as well. Haven’t read anyone bellyaching here about that.

No, he could have put it on a poll and carried it. He is not the only one, just about every Olympian does it. It still doesn't make it right.

For what it is worth, imo, burning it in protest is worse. But it is possible to properly burn a flag to dispose of it.

Yes, they are and I have a problem with that too. I've been busy not complaining about all of them. It still isn't right. It isn't just about 2nd Lt. Wyatt Hendrickson. Who otherwise is a respectable American.

I wish the USOC would discuss this with the athletes prior to the Olympics. (I also wish that the Olympics would live up to it's original charter and not be nationalistic, but it is far too late for that.)

Random thoughts today: I was thinking about the vote again and in the end, the difference was David Taylor’s 2 votes. He gets one for each year he won the Hodge. In years past, those more likely than not went to a PSU wrestler, if there was one in the race. This year his votes went to his wrestler. Hendrickson won 30-26. If you take DT’s two votes from Hendrickson and give those to Carter, it’s a tie.
