Fant was gone to Iowa before Riley was hired IMO. Pelini screwed it up first then Riley's staff probably didn't do the best job trying to mend the fence. That said, the TE they landed should have been a good one.

Yep, went to a Millard South Basketball game with Fant playing in it and Ioway had a couple of asst attending didn’t see any Husker coaches there..

Yeah losing out on Fant was due to Pelini. Riley actually put good effort into getting Fantastic.

Wrong it was Peelini that wanted for a DE, when Riley came in Fant pretty much made up his mind to attend

Pelini screwed up too and Fant's dad wasn't a Pelini or Beck fan, but Fant was still very much Nebraska's to lose until Riley straight up told him he didn't block well enough to play TE here and was going to put him at DE making Hughes his primary recruiter.

Riley did later tell Fant he'd let him play TE but that was a late hail mary in January after Fant already comitted to Iowa and Riley was desperate because he felt he was losing the TE he actually wanted - Chase Allen,to Harbaugh.

If Riley just recruits Fant as a TE straight up and without the games, he's a Husker.

I can agree that it could/would be upsetting. I just find it more selfish if a player got upset because his teammate didn't want to risk their livelihood on a meaningless bowl game.

Very good discussion btw.

A potential lively hood that his teammates helped him achieve though. Tough situation, but I'm sure they care enough about him to understand.

I agree and I get it. Also to be clear I'm not saying all of his teammates would be okay with it, but if most were (at least the ones who matter) then I really don't see why fans care so much?

I will disagree with you on the coaches. They already make hundreds of thousands if not millions. So I would have very little sympathy because they didn't hit their bonus while I'm risking my livelihood.
Yeah the coaches argument wasn’t very strong... just floated it out there, but don’t much care what the coach thinks, since he is getting paid handsomely either way.
