I know I'm horrible for saying this, but - I do not like one single piece of art by Michelangelo (or Leonardo da Vinci for that matter). Sorry he died and all but, he wasn't a cultural underpinning or artistic phenomenon to me.

In 600 years, the world will still be in awe of the genius lyrics hidden within Modern Love.

He was one of the true originals. Greatly influenced a lot of other musicians

Under Pressure one of my all time favorites (duet with Mercury, FTW)

But always liked "Heroes", sort of a sad melancholy tune with a great beat

And we could be Heroes, just for one day . . .

So many Bowie tunes. Lost Lemmy, now David. I don't want to know who's next. Here's one of my underrated Bowie favs: "1984"

He was just so damn cool in everythng he did...i introduced my six year old boy to Bowie's music last year and we listened to a ton of his music together. Left to travel for work super early as I usually do on Monday and was sadden by not only his deah but also not getting to talk to my little guy as found out this morning from seeing it on the news before school...

Just bummed out all day toady...

That analogy is dumb. 2 artists that transcended all of Western Culture for 500+ years influencing everything at the peak of the greatest artistic movement in history , vs a guy whose music is amazing, but been around 50 years. It's like saying a light bulb is the same as the sun because they produce energy.

Also, who the touch sits around admiring DaVinchi works? Why not something more modern like Kandinsky or Gauguin?

Just overall a really terrible attempt at a burn.

Always admired his willingness to reinvent himself and not become a stale, jaded rock star. Always interesting.

Honestly can't say that there are more than a handful of songs of his I truly like. Almost none that I hate and I would never suggest that he sucked. He was immensely influential and talented. His music just never grabbed me. Sort of like Picasso - understand his talent and influence. Just not my cup of tea.

Sorry to lose another legend though....

Looks like Bowie was a pretty good financial planner after almost going bankrupt. Iman and his two kids look to get about $194 million (assuming a 1.44 pound per dollar exchange rate).

That's interesting read on the "Bowie" bonds, yet he and his family are able to have the rights to the songs.

Him releasing his Blackstar album before his death kind of reminds me of Johnny Cash and his release with the cover of "Hurt".
