So, I have never seen an episode of the TV show. I know season 3 is about to start. I was looking for the first 2 seasons, but can't find them anywhere for free (I can buy them on Prime).

My question...

Is each season separate from the others, or do I need to watch the first 2 prior to watching season 3?

The second season of Fargo is one of the best things to be on TV in a long time, IMO.
I agree with this. Ranks alongside Better Call Saul and just slightly behind the best of Breaking Bad.

The first two seasons are linked somewhat but not in a way that matters crucially. There was an indication at the end of season 2 that season 3 would be linked but I do not know if that is true yet or to what extent it's true.

They do feature some of the same characters, only at far different times in their life and the story line is tangentially related.

For example, a significant part of the story line in Season 1 relates to something that happened in the movie.

BTW, you can watch both seasons on HULU currently.

You won't regret paying for them if you have two. Season 2, minus the one single flaw in the series (the over the top UFO scene) is as good as any show I've ever seen. Right there with true detective's first season.

I certainly agree with shortbus, worth paying for them. But if you buy a month of HULU you can see both and any other shows they have for just $11 (no commercials plan) so it's a much better deal than paying the $15 for each season that Amazon Prime wants.

Been: The Casts each season are unique & fantastic. Must See TV IMHO.

Season 1: Billy Bob, Jim from the British Office, & the 2 Hit Men

Season 2: LOVED Hanzee Dent, great Character...The KC Mob & the family they are at War with, plus the protagonist (can't recall names right now) are all compelling

Based on one episode season three looks to be equal to the first two. Great character potential.

I'm already loving the characters and the performances. It took me a few minutes to catch on, but seeing Ewan McGregor playing both male leads (brothers) was fun. And Mary Elizabeth Winstead is fast becoming one of my favorite actresses.

The other thing I like.... they don't spare the expense and are willing to pay for licensing some decent music, starting out with Heart and ending on SOB by N.R. & the Night Sweats, with lots of other goodies in between.

The East German angle had my interest from the start, then toss in all the other goings on and shenanigans from episode one and I'm already hooked and wanting more.

You are right about the music. It really adds to the overall. It seems as if the Coen Bros have always been meticulous about music & its placement.

Very nice debut. M-E Winstead and Evan McGregor as the black sheep brother are a great duo.
