When I was an 8th grader the OG Jordans came out. I wanted a pair so bad for Christmas but they were about $75 which was a lot back in 1985. I totally didn't expect to get them but my mom surprised me with a pair. Possibly one of my favorite childhood memories knowing the sacrifice my parents made to get those for me.

-basketball: whatever shoe carnival had on sale. We had money, but I didn't care about that stuff.

-sneakers: chucks or sambas.

Amen. As a parent, I came to realize and appreciate the lengths my family went to in order to get me a pair of shoes for Christmas that were close to $150-200 when I got them. There's also an enormous amount of pressure as a parent to make sure your kid doesn't experience disappointment on that day.

BTW, how crazy funny is it to watch all of these shoes come back out? I rock a pair of Nike Blazers as my casual shoe these days.

Also, while we’re on the subject, I followed them up the following year (I think) with these POS Deion Sanders that we’re the most uncomfortable POS of all time

It’s funny because me and @HagginHall1999 were literally having this conversation Saturday
If you buy a Star's shoe and your foot is a different shape than theirs then it can be a really bad match. My son's team bought Donovan Mitchell's Adidas shoes last year and he has narrow feet. I had to go buy my son a different pair of Adidas shoes to wear because they were killing him to wear. I think one of the secret's to the Air Jordan success is that Michael had a fairly wide foot so his shoes fit everybody pretty good.

There it is, Converse All Star Chuck Taylor's. Nothing better. If I wanted them, I had to buy them myself otherwise as Cosby said it was canvas spats. Stepfather would get us after school (if close enough) and make us work (drywall) with him till dark, He would also make us work on weekends and pay us the child rates. If he could not come get us, me and my brother would help people carry their groceries to their cars at Mid-City Mall in Louisville for tips. They had bars around the outside of the stores that the baskets could not fit through. Would save my money for the shoes I liked. Chuck Taylor's among other things.

I loved the Bo Jackson cross trainers, the Barkley's, and my favorite shoe to play ball in was the super high David Robinson ones (looking on ebay, I think they were called the DS Nike Air Command Force, Billy Hoyle version).

And my favorite Jordans were the True Blue 3's.

I came up poor....until I got old enough to work......my folks shopped for our shoes at Hill Bros shoes at 18th and Hill St..........two pair for $5.......I asked for a pr of the Chuck Taylors like what was in the window.....I was maybe 9-10 yrs old.......as I was picking myself up off of the floor of the store I realized they might be too expensive at $7.95 a pr....When I went to work, the first thing I bought was two pair of chucks.....I have four pair around and hardly wear them.......because.......I can....

When I was a young kid, most of us wore canvas Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars. The extremely poor kids wore Converse Coach.

Never called them "sneakers". Sounds ghey.

We didn't have much money when I was young, but my great aunt was a manager of a small town clothing store and we got discounts on name brand clothes and shoes. Had the original white-on-white Jordans, but these original Ky Dunks were probably my favorite...

These were my all time favorite. Got them right as I was really getting in to UK basketball and was already a huge Jordan fan. I'm not sure if any other Jordan's were made rocking royal blue.

Still have them. Probably gonna clean them up and let my kids wear them as they aren't in terrible shape.
