For me it was 86PSUPaul and his tradition of fighting with team rival moms. Followed up by HLStone's mea culpa with the Nebraska section by doing the unspeakable and leading a Go Big Red chant to keep the peace.

Wait... where were you?

You had to be close to know that much. I must admit, it was pretty fun leading a "Go Big Red" chant during a Brock Hardy match. He is a favorite wrestler of mine.

I was saving the Paul vs. Nebraska story for Paul's write-up on the weekend.

What?

A PSU fan (excluding field hockey, which I'll give him a parental pass on), at the BJC, during the B1G Wrestling Championships where PSU is kicking butt, and @Hlstone is leading a Nebraska cheer. I don't care if he was surrounded by Playboy Bunnies, and seeking some "attention" -- there are some things you just don't do as they are unacceptable behavior.

it's a good thing that I've met @Hlstone, and have enjoyed interacting with him on the boards for many years. Because, fan cards have been pulled for lesser actions than what he did this past weekend. Just saying.

Tom, that was the best roasting I have ever deserved.

You put a beating on me like a Zain bow and arrow.

I cast my vote for PJ Duke. On tik tok I watch this one show and Duke and Blaze are always interviewing other wrestlers Haines van ness etc. Duke is always on there laughing seems like a super nice kid.
That being said my favorite part was Dukes face during the Taylor match. Stone cold killer a switch was turned. If you haven’t seen it go back rewatch so laser focused. Not f****** around at all.

Duke was just plain nasty.
I became impressed with Duke when me and my daughter drove up to West Point. He was throwing College Seniors around. Very physical. When he lost to Taylor I said to my daughter he will beat Taylor next time. My daughter and I went to Bigs and at end of the finals match I looked at my daughter and said "Told you so". She laughed.

There was a restart where Taylor was down and Duke was standing over him and I swear he stared a hole in the back of his head. I was thinking this cat is about to get punished!!!

A couple of stuck stories of our own…

Our daughter and family were in Austria for the summer (our son-in-law was teaching there)… they flew into Munich, then went by train into Austria… when they got to their stop, where a colleague was waiting to pick them up, our son-in-law couldn’t get the compartment door to open, and before they could get help, they were underway again. Only then did they find the English translation at the bottom of a German sign on the door “Door out of order, exit other end.”! (He called his colleague, who said no sweat I’ll go to the next stop.)

Some years earlier, same son-in-law (I swear, no relation to Tom Ryan) and I (and several other random people) got into a parking garage elevator after unloading at the hotel for our son’s wedding… door closes, button pushed for ground floor, nothing happens, push again, no luck, push door open button, no response… uh oh… pick up the elevator phone to get help, and find myself speaking to, not the hotel staff, not even someone in town, but a national elevator company guy, with all the urgency in his voice of a Cheech and Chong character “What city?… I’ll see if I can get someone out there.” And we’re thinking this was going to be hours, and I’m just a couple of hours from hosting the only rehearsal dinner of my life! After a few long minutes, someone started punching buttons for other floors, without response… but you know what worked?- pushing the button for the floor we had never left popped the door right open… you never saw a half dozen people jump through a door so quickly! …and right through the “Emergency Use Only” door to the stairwell… alarm did NOT sound, but if we had been hassled, we had a very good excuse!

Why are you using a picture of Terry Brands to make fun of Tom Ryan?
Another great memory not from big tens but from season. Tom brands has one of the best winning percentages of all time. I watched Iowa duels on BTN thru out the year and watched his WP fall. Not sure but I think it’s under .9 now.

I thought they meant a different type of screwdriver.
Speaking of Screwdriver. Sunday Special at Brothers was the old school Screwdriver for 3 bucks. First time I was in that establishment. TVs galore with a lot of room between tables. Much better than going to Champs in between sessions on Saturday. Sat at bar and didn't get a drink for 30 minutes.

I voted

BJC booing every time Angelo’s knee touched the mat

That gave me a good laugh every time it happened.

BUT

Duke's win was a really great moment as was Van Ness, The way Van Ness's matches went up to that point. Him sticking Stiles in the finals was pretty dam impressive and a really fun win to have watched. Plus at that point I was still trying to do chinese arithmetic in my head to figure out if OSU had any chance of pulling out the team title. The fall put my mind at ease.

It was also great to witness AJ getting taken down with like 20 seconds left to lose the match. When he just laid there before faking injury it reminded me some of when Vincenzo Joseph stuck Isaiah Martinez in the finals of the 2017 NCAA's. Martinez just laid there stunned. That was a beaut.

Then there was a kid in front of me that drank about 8 of the $16 beers each session. It was not the number of beers it was the $$ I think he dropped more on beer than I paid for the hotel for two nights.

All in it was a great weekend. Went up with my youngest (Who made it to National Prep's this year.) and a buddy of his from his HS team and his dad. Only knock on the weekend was driving back to Rockville VA after the finals and not getting back until after 1:00am. I wanted to take the day off and drive back on Monday but he did not want to miss school. I don't know what's wrong with him or where I went wrong.

Favorite memory was the camaraderie, and seeing so many people from here and elsewhere at get-togethers. Among that crew, @Hlstone calling me out from the stands to ask me Who is that?? about a fellow photographer.

Least favorite memory was hardly sleeping Saturday night and "waking up" at 3 am to drive to NY to shoot the Ivies (hosted by Columbia), where Columbia finished second behind Cornell and State College's Jude Swisher got OW over then-unbeaten Meyer Shapiro. It was dense fog the entire ride and the hour lost to DST was extra painful.

Columbia will send at least 6, but perhaps 7 to the NCAAs. I will be busy in Cleveland, so light on those Bourbon pours, @Hockeygod11.

It wasn't my favorite memory of the B1Gs, but probably the most memorable was being in the tunnel while Braeden Davis and Cael were discussing what had happened in the Olivieri match. I only heard snippets (and wasn't about to linger--these guys deserve some degree of privacy, given how un-private a tournament setting is) so nothing to report, but the impression I got reinforced my sense that Davis is maybe the toughest wrestler to coach on the team.

I have a really good friend who is an ex Penn wrestler and strong alumni supporter of their program. I'm going to make sure he gets that photo of Swisher and Shaprio. He'll love it.

some Big thoughts...

- cool to see Kasak walking around and the other teammates
- BJC needs updated....
- Great seats - thanks UMD and Bob!!
- Sitting in the UMD section, down low, was great. Was next to Iowa. UMD mostly left early - and Iowa - so that is one reason the seats appeared empty... and they were as ticket holders didn't come back...
- A lot of anti-PSU sentiment... more 'rooting' for the other guys as they're tired of PSU winning. They do respect the talent.
- Great fan reaction when an Iowa or Nebraska wrestler went to their knee in neutral!
- Will be interesting to see Scooter's draw. Could have had a TD in each of the matches he lost. May have had a different outcome. I didn't mind some of the sparring based on the entire match vs Rutgers
- Blaze does need some more O. My point to everyone around me is the bad thing about winning this tournament is having to do it again in 2 weeks. So Blaze is on the right track!
- I called the PJ match. Just had to get more physical like Kasak was last year
- Iowa and Nebbie coach's - should be youth coaches based on how they carry on. Manning doesn't seem likeable.
- I liked how 'our' greats handed out the podium awards
- Good that the tourney was held over spring break as town wasn't busy
- By rule Rocko won but I'm not sure I like the rules there. Might as well stop action with a second to go :). Just seemed liked a TD. But holy smokes, he is a 9 minute wrestling freak...
- Figure 4 was there on Levi... if not called he would have won regardless imo
- I still haven't lost confidence in SVN. He just takes the having fun and don't worry about giving up a TD to heart!
- MM is amazing with his misdirection's and shots to both sides.
- Not going to Cleveland but am taking the two days off of work to watch!
- Parking lot exit is a mess.... think it has been proven the 'zipper method' is the fastest way to a reduced lane. Some folks won't even take turns on their mergers...

You skipped over how he asked you to get her number and you replied you were married!

Best quote of our Big 10 Weekend

While sitting in Happy Valley Live after the tournament, enjoying our meal and a few beers, the table next to us was also PSU wrestling fans doing the same. Of course, we struck up a conversation about the results and a guy turned to me and said, “at HWT I caught myself actually rooting for Michigan…….AND it made me feel DIRTY!”
He said it with a straight face and dead serious!
Tremendous…

It’s actually Marcus Blaze and Connor Pierce that do the interviews. They do a great job and have had PJ on the show!

Awesome recap a mshaffer.

I realize that it is your perception for the great weekend but it amazes me how little Josh Barr gets talked about. Others do it too.

He just puts his head down and goes on and destroys opponents every match. Has been doing it all year and this past weekend.

Again, no negativity here. I enjoyed reading your experiences from this past weekend.

Watching PJ Duke's celebration after winning the finals was one of my favorites. All season long he has been strictly business, and it was good to see him get so excited after the win.
I was watching the Welsh-Ferrari match on BTN+ on my laptop with headphones. No announcers, just arena background noise, the coaches yelling instructions and the refs talking to the wrestles. During the ride outs, Ferrari got to his feet and turned into Welsh but didn't get the escape for a few seconds. In the background you could hear one of the Brands' brothers yelling at the ref "he's out you son of a b!!!h". That was funny!

I mentioned this in the Session 2 thread, but right at the end of the BTN broadcast after the semis, they showed a shot of Minto since he had been selected as OW for the round. It showed him right after he had beaten Kennedy, and he was on the edge of the circle getting in Brands face. Needless to say, Brands was not happy. It looked like he wanted to go after Minto although I didn't see anyone restraining him.
