There are so many fallacies in that thinking that we can only shake our heads. "Coach K won't let Giles take a redshirt, as if Giles would want one, because Coach K would rather lose one top ranked player in favor of maybe getting another top ranked player who will also be one and done." What?

Bumping these hall of fame posts after reading all of the nonsense they've been posting regarding Giles' surgery. Thank you @OldasdirtDevil for making these.

There are ways to roast your rival while still having a reasonable conversation about basketball. I think most Carolina fans hold a begrudging respect for K, even if we don't like a single bone in his body. You're just dealing with a deranged crowd there.

UK fans are the same exact way when it comes to K and Duke. UK fans and tarheel fans are carbon copies of each other. Lol

Courtesy of @Steat:

K does not care about Giles well-being. If he did care, he would tell Giles to redshirt and take another year to rehab. The only thing K is thinking about is getting Giles on the floor this season so that Giles does not disrupt his 2017 recruiting class. If Giles redshirts, Carter does not sign with Duke for 2017. Duke can win the title without Giles. It's very plain and simple. K, is a selfish rat, and this may be a gross understatement.

This is one of my favorite posts ever. Ever!

It's not even close. UNC fans have a really sick obsession with Coach K. UK just doesn't like us. There's a difference.
Maybe it's just me then. I live among UK fans and deal with them on a daily basis and the hate for Duke and K is very apparent. Maybe I wouldn't call it a sick obsession but there is definitely some weird obsession with Duke and K among them. With some UK fans I have dealt with, it is like they DO have a sick obsession with K. It's like some of them look at him like he is this evil cult leader and not a basketball coach. Its kind of hard for me to explain. U would have almost have to live here for a while to see what I am talking about. All I know is I just Loathe both programs and have zero respect for both of them.

Not a direct thr quote but from one of their own. Heard Fedora yesterday say the weather conditions were having an effect in their offense. I guess the rain and wind stopped and the field and balls were dry when VT was on offense.

Guess who?? Yep, Steat:

"If K "cared" about Giles well-being he WOULD redshirt him but he does not care about Giles. With 3 knee surgeries, Giles presents a problem for K. The Leader of Men position is that he would rather have a 50% Giles on the floor this year in lieu of a 100% Giles next season. Redshirting Giles creates a roster logjam next season. You can kiss Carter goodbye if Giles is redshirted and Bolden and Jeter return. With Duke's deep bench, K figures at this juncture Giles will basically be a role player this season and whatever he gives the team will be icing on the cake. That way Giles leaves Duke and it is clear sailing for Carter to commit. Carter is not going to sign with Duke if Giles, Bolden and Jeter are on the roster next year. Duke can win the national title without Giles. ESPN sure thinks so as they still ranked Duke as #1 despite Giles injury.

K knew they had no chance of winning the title so he convinced Amile to redshirt when he was healthy enough to play at the end of the season. If Duke had a better team, Amile would have played at the end of the season. K convinced Amile to redshirt because he knew Duke would have a better chance to win the title this year. Without Amile, Duke would not be ranked in the top 10 right now.

Would you rather have Giles in 2017 or Carter? I think most of your fans would rather have the bulldozer Carter with NO history of knee injuries."

Duke wouldn't be ranked in the preseason top 10 if Amile weren't at Duke?? Lol, OK....

More K hate from good old Steat. What a clown.

"I hope Giles recovers in 6 weeks and never has another setback. But if he does have a setback and still qualifies for a redshirt, K will not allow a redshirt because it will screw up his 2017 class. Kyrie Irving and Amile are classic examples of K's selfishness. They were out for similar periods. Kyrie came back because K had a good chance of winning the title that year. Kyrie came back and disrupted the team's chemistry and Duke was slaughtered by Arizona (Arizona Massacre) in the NCAA tournament. But in K's mind Kyrie was the missing piece that season. Amile redshirted because K knew he had no chance of a title last year. Thus, saving him for next season. K is selfish rat that only cares about himself."

DSouthr:

"Is the "most" opposing fans wanting Giles to sit statement reflective of your duke fans base? Because that is not what you have seen from this fan base, what you have seen from us is that we hate the kid got hurt and wish him well. Your "assume" does not seem to agree with what has been expressed by tar Heels in this thread, it that how your dukies see things, do your dukies cheer for a kid to be injured so their opponents can be weaker?

I hate having the excuses in place for losses, dukies tried to explain away last season as only happening because of jefferson's injury, excuse is all that was. As much as your dukies like to spin what I say, you don't see me jump on the refs after a loss, I don't like using excuses for losses. But it must be a foreign concept to dukies to not use excuses to try to explain losses, it is AMAZING...

I would rather we beat duke with Giles than without him!"

Coryfly starting to blend right in with the rest of the A holes over there. Wishing a kid can play so he can "struggle". Nice....

"Yeah, I just don't see any way it is in his best interest to sit. As I've said, I want him to play and I want him to struggle. When he goes pro I don't care how well he does but while at Duke I don't want him to do well. Nothing personal but just the way it is. I want him to get the chance to struggle though, not have an injury keep him out."

What a dickhead.

I am not sure what cory said there is anything to fret about. He clearly said he doesn't want the kid to be hurt and as a guy who plays for Duke, why wouldn't he want Giles to "struggle?"

A counter to steats misguided views would be, what would be the purpose of redshirting Giles? He is at Duke for one year, whether he plays or not. So red shirting him makes no sense at all. I know the UNC fans are not exactly sure how OAD talent is handled nowadays, since it has been a while for them. Giles and Carter will never cross paths on the court at Duke.

They, and UK fans at RR, usually have a "The officiating was criminal and the NCAA should be investigating them!" type thread after every loss.

I took it as he wants the kid to be healthy and just not play well while in a Duke uniform. I don't lump cory in to the category of dsouthr or steat. While cory and I disagree frequently, he is not a moron when it comes to that stuff. JMO.

UNC fans use the ref excuse all the time. (not all of them) Heck they use it for games that do not even involve UNC. They are vocal about the refs.

The UNC paranoia with officials has even spilled over into the use of TV TIMEOUTS. Dean Smith's paranoia was out of control, once blaming an ACC now deceased clock operator for a loss to State (70s) in Carmichael...Scroll down for Saint Dean's great rationale....

Accusing Duke fans of not being able to handle a loss without making excuses is the most patently absurd thing I have ever seen throughout this entire 102 page thread.

I have been around these boards for the past 10 years or so and I have not seen a single post game thread at THR following a loss that wasn't 75% or more full of excuses about refs, NCAA conspiracies or anything their warped minds could cook up. To accuse another fan of such conduct displays such a lack of awareness that the phrase "patently absurd" doesn't even do it justice. That would be like the Patriots accusing other teams of spying or the redskins accusing another team of having an insensitive name. Shake my damn head in disbelief.

I think the "I want him to get the chance to struggle" line is what got me as a bit much, kinda mean spirited sounding. As if he wants Giles to have a rough time at Duke and he will take pleasure in the kid's "struggles." But yeah, he is nowhere close to the likes of DSouthr, Steat and gary.

Our hopes were really strong during the NBA finals last season apparently. : )

I do hope that every UNC player struggles, on the court. However I wish them nothing but success and happiness away from the court. Most of these kids we try and tare down are usually really good people.
