Amazing. Your artwork always delivers
Great post, DJ...you nailed it.

Bingo. The only players they could make the case for are Ty Lawson (mired in personal problems at the moment) and Harrison Barnes (overshadowed by at least 4 players on his own team). The problem is Dsouthr wants to talk about pro success after college but in reality there's only about three or four former UNC guys making any kind of an impact right now in the NBA. All of his examples are from almost 20 years ago. That's now a trend and not a mirage. Roy is hardly churning out great pro players.
Bingo. And Coach K doesn't get any credit for Lance Thomas and Miles Plumlee (a first round pick) sticking around the league. My favorite is the "produced" XYZ players. Players like Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Jah, Towns, werern't "produced" by their college coach
Danny Green has carved out a nice niche role on a great team. Good for him. Although, it only counts when UNC guys are able to carve out a niche role that helps out the franchise. B/c when Battier did that for multiple teams, that was underachieving.Bingo. The only players they could make the case for are Ty Lawson (mired in personal problems at the moment) and Harrison Barnes (overshadowed by at least 4 players on his own team).
Come on timo! You know they can't use that kind of deductive reasoning.B/c when Battier did that for multiple teams, that was underachieving.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHThose bastards at the NCAA purposely told USA Basketball head Jerry Colangelo to get a meeting of the great bball minds in a room, bring in dean smith, confuse him of what was going on so that he would recommend K over any other college coach (even Roy), for the job. Sneaky sneaky NCAA.
It legitimately scares me that these people are allowed to cross the street by themselvesSeahawk with a gem "I agree K should milk it because it is obviously working. The NCAA is the issue. They allow this to occur and give him an advantage along with all the free crap Duke players are allowed with penalty. They refuse to even look at Duke."
Trying to figure out exactly what NCAA violation he's implying. Anyone? Bueller?
Definitely an NCAA issue though, no question. Those bastards at the NCAA purposely told USA Basketball head Jerry Colangelo to get a meeting of the great bball minds in a room, bring in dean smith, confuse him of what was going on so that he would recommend K over any other college coach (even Roy), for the job. IndeedOr makes you wonder how they are able to dress themselves every morning.
Stick to the talking points. Like reading off a teleprompter.ChapelHeeled with a total offbase response to a valid point made by a Duke fan:
Rational Post: "While we can all agree that UNC has more NBA rings than Duke, but you can't prop up Roy for those. He's produced only one (1) NBA all-star, that was Paul Pierce. Roy's former players that have won rings were certainly not the stars of their NBA teams. Not going to come here and claim that all former Duke players are stars in the NBA, but for that to be a knock on K and not a knock on Roy is a little hard to explain."
ChapelHeeled coming out of left field: "Well, Phil Jackson has stated what many here already know to be true. "K"ay can claim Grant Hill and a bunch of Dookie promo machines (analysis) that may indeed work for DSPN and/or CBS. Too bad that some of his so-called greatest players didn't really become superstars in the Nba. Neither have they won but a few Nba Championships. Phil Jackson just went up a notch, in my book..."
Um, apparently he has no retort regarding Roy's complete inability to produce NBA talent outside of Paul Pierce.

I thought Mike Dunleavy and Gerald have done quite well for themselvesI wonder what ChapelHeeled would think about this dose of reality:

Yeah, I thought so as well. Also, Hansbrough has met expectations? Could have fooled me...I thought Mike Dunleavy and Gerald have done quite well for themselves
That stat line screams all-star to me: http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3991/tyler-hansbroughYeah, I thought so as well. Also, Hansbrough has met expectations? Could have fooled me...
He has for me. I thought he would be a mediocre journey man from the second he was drafted. There is nothing wrong with that either. He has made a lot of money. Just getting to the NBA is an accomplishment. Sticking around for a bunch of years is successful to me.Yeah, I thought so as well. Also, Hansbrough has met expectations? Could have fooled me...
Touche, Denn.He has for me. I thought he would be a mediocre journey man from the second he was drafted. There is nothing wrong with that either. He has made a lot of money. Just getting to the NBA is an accomplishment. Sticking around for a bunch of years is successful to me.
Yeah, when Hansbrough makes the top 10 of a ballot of an All-Star team, someone please let me know; that was a sad case with Bobby Hurley, as well as with Jay Will. Who knows how they would have done had they not suffered eerily similar accidents?Well, I have a little problem with someone stating that Hansbrough met expectations, but Christian Laettner didn't (the article mentioned). Can't fathom someone coming up with that.
It has always pissed me off that for some reason everyone (including some Duke fans) think that Laettner sucked in the NBA. Far from it. He was stuck in Minnesota for almost 5 seasons before being traded to Atlanta. He had a great 7 seasons plus before having a horrible Achilles heel injury that left him not quite the same player. But even his 9 seasons after that he was better than Hansbrough.
During Laettner's first 7 seasons he averaged 16.8 points and 8.1 rebounds a game. He was named an All Star in his first full season in Atlanta (18.1 ppg 8.8 rebounds a game). He probably deserved another or two All Star nods while at Minnesota, but a bad team, and a place with not much press didn't help. His numbers weren't Hall of Fame numbers, but they were quite good.
And as for Bobby Hurley...he had the devastating car wreck in his 1st season. I don't know how good he might could have been, but he was definitely not the same player after the wreck.

The tide swinging way back in Duke's favor regarding the rivalry probably didn't help matters either hahaWithout starting a new thread I'll just put some thoughts on this one. Before I start isn't it strange that the poster with the most new threads on this board is a THR regular. Now on with my post. I started posting in the spring of 2006. We at that time had several regular posters here that were also on at THR. Lot's of good discussions going on. I remember at that time I spelled Tar Heels as one word Tarheel and one of the posters kindly told me it was 2 words. UNC was coming off he 2005 national championship and as a whole they were a very cordial and civil group. For the most part it remained this way through 2009. From time to time things got a little intense with discussions about flopping, the Gerald Henderson/Hansbrough incident, our pokes at Hanstravelflopsandgetsfouledalotbutneverfouls, my tae on HF Coach Roy Williams ties and Wanda's "nanner puddin. " Things really changed in the spring of 2010. Many of them that had been cordial and civil really became annoying trolls and ended up getting banned. I'm having a little trouble trying to figure out what happened. Is it because of my constant critique of HOF Coach Roy Williams and his constant foot in the mouth quotes or is something that just went ovr my head.OFC

"Our BIGGEST problem is the NCAA and all the NEGATIVE recruiting by slimy coaches because of it. PERIOD!"
Yeah, none of UNC's problems have anything to do with anything UNC actually did. PERIOD!!!! Everything is someone else's fault.
Denial is a powerful state of mind...
Yeah, Irby is way off base here. The biggest problem is UNC. Anyone that has read a fraction of all the incriminating stuff that I've read about this scandal knows how bad this mess is...and who caused it. If UNC had come clean years ago this would have been a speck in the rearview mirror, .but the university spin masters just want to save their precious men's basketball heritage...no matter the cost in money or integrity.
OFC
It's gotta hurt to see the team you have been so loyal to for so many years become involved in a scandal like the one UNC has got it's self into. I know it would not only hurt but it would be embarrassing and shameful to me as a Duke supporter if it happened to Duke. I only hope that I would be a supporter and not an enabler or be in self denial making all sorts of excuses and blaming everyone except the ones responsible. I would hope that I had enough guts to demand that the program be cleaned up completely and those responsible for letting it happen would pay the price no matter who they were and that includes Coach K and no matter what it cost us including national championships and wins. The integrity of the program is the priority. OFC
