I don't post often but had to when I saw this gem... This isn't from our friends over at THR but another Carolina forum...

Newbernheel -

"An AAU coach in Ohio told me dook is paying players and they are not even trying to hide it anymore. K has been doing underhanded things for years but the AAU coach thinks that the Lance Thomas deal confirmed to him that he is untouchable and he has about 3 years left and wants to win multiple chips before he goes out."

Coach K coming stacked with hundreds in his back pocket!!! Lol

Sky, it just slipped my mind that we pay the refs! But what's really impressive is that we got in contact with K to tell him to start forking out the dough to our current players and recruits. Its not just refs anymore. It's really the only logical reason our recruiting has been on fire as of late. We here at DI have some crazy powers I tell ya!:rolleyes::rolleyes::);)

Wow, Roseheel actually might have some common sense. He posted this in the Jalek Felton thread over there with regard to the NCAA investigation being the source of UNC's recruiting problems:

"This is a dead horse that's been beaten out of proportion at this point. How long can you blame a scandal that began affecting our basketball program in 2014 for our problems that began in 2011?

The scandal has exacerbated our problems. Not created them. And the more the original excuse is made the worse we look."

I'm sure the backlash is imminent....

The best is guys like Mike Irby blaming negative recruiting by coaches as the big problem. I have no doubt there's some negative recruiting going on against them, in fact, Duke has had to deal with it in the past too. That just happens. Everywhere. But what some of them fail to acknowledge is that this was brought on 100% by the administration, school, coaches and respective athletic programs. Their turning a complete blind eye to the corruption and incompetence of their school just leaves one shaking their head. When you cheat for close to two decades I would think common sense kind of tells you that there's going to be a little backlash. The basketball program, as we all knew the entire time, is going to avoid major sanctions. That all they have to deal with is some negative recruiting is pretty minor when you consider what could be brought upon their program.

I didn't know Berry liked to drink and drive. I guess it's better than being the next Raymond Felon.

hey u need to send out a schedule telling each of us which game that we are responsible to pay. we certainly cannot have a game where the refs are not bribed due to clerical error. lol

I have a feeling since we won the NC the payoffs are going to sky rocket. There may be others with deep pockets willing to do what it takes. and they don't care what the cost. It's got so bad that we can't trust the refs any more because they've gotten so greedy that they are going to to take the top bid and we may not have the big cabbage to do it. We will have to see. The way you will be able to tell is if the UNC fans start complaining about the officiating you know we won the bid. To keep things level we also need to complain about the officiating just to throw things off. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to keep others from knowing what we are doing especially those guys over at THR. They're sharp as a tack over there and pulling something like this off is going to be a lot harder now after we've won our 5th NCAA national championship. I'll need to consult my main OFC members to discuss how we get the funds up, who collects the funds and who makes the pay off. Keep in mind all of this hinges on we being the top bidder and keeping this whole thing close to our chest so THR doesn't find out what we are doing. If any of you have a good, concrete plan that will be guaranteed in house let me know. ;););)OFC

I was actually surprised to see that from Mike Irby because he knows better.

Desperation. Things must really be bland over at THR. Nothing really to look forward to except the hope that nothing happens before this season starts. May be the best chance they have for a successful year for a while. Excuse me a moment while I wipe some tears from my eyes. OFC

Mike Irby with a gem:

"Ingram was ALWAYS going to Duke!"

Funny, because Ingram himself said he would have committed to UNC early if they didn't have sanctions looming.

That is funny! All I ever heard (from Heel fans) was that he was a lock for the Heels...until the scandal heated up. I don't know if they know which way is the best way to spin this thing to make it look better for them. I suspect there isn't one.

Poor Gary...

"I for one do not EVER want to see Carolina turn to the Cal (and now K) model of recruiting, nor do we need to, Bring 'em in for a year and dumb down our system? No thank you."

Dumb down the system? Apparently Gary doesn't know what it means to adapt with the talent you have to succeed. A great coach recognizes his team's strengths, and adapts accordingly. A terrible coach (cough...Roy...cough) remains steadfast with an ineffective strategy that doesn't mesh with his players' strengths.

Also, someone should let Gary know that the 4-corners offense was the single most boring strategy in the history of college basketball. It blows my mind a UNC fan wants to talk about strategy when the greatest coach in UNC history literally had to invent a strategy for stalling just so his teams could compete. Absolutely amazing.

This is by far my favorite thread and in my opinion could be 2x the size it currently is. As for Gary's quote, i said it earlier in this thread pages ago i'm sure, but it's easy to say that when you're not getting the players. Funny thing it wasn't too long ago when they beat us out for a sure fire OAD and the next lebron in Harrison Barnes. I'm sure that was ok though right? I guess its ok when you're winning and getting the players, but if you're not, EVEN THOUGH ROY IS OFFERING THEM, then it's called a different dumb down model.

^ I would say the primary knock on Roy is the use of and the need of a "system." K has no "system" - look at the disparate types of teams he has won big with.

Gary-7 knows more about basketball than anyone on the planet...and if you read his posts he always makes that known.

And dumb down their system? Hell, is that even possible? Roy has to hold up pictures to set up a play.

Let's be completely honest, only Jahlil was a projected one-and-done in our class last season. I think it says a lot about K and how he used Winslow and Jones, which in turn allowed them to showcase themselves....turning one into a lottery pick and another into the Final Four MOP while also securing a spot in the first round. People can say what they want....but I think if you'd ask Justise and Tyus, or anyone with common sense for that matter, they'd be able to tell you that those two guys developed immensely over the past 12 months.

And another point....Roy recruited Jahlil, he recruited Tyus, he was after Jabari. In fact, Roy has recruited at least 15 kids in the last six or seven years who were projected one and done players at the time. That list includes some players he landed, like Ed Davis, Harrison Barnes and James Michael McAdoo.

In fact, in next year's class alone he's after at least three players who project one-and-done --- Giles, Smith, and Bam. So the stupid arguments about them not wanting Roy to recruit like Cal and K may be true, but the fact is, he's been recruiting just like them for a long time. He's just not succeeding at it. That's the difference.

Stupid people say stupid things (a lot)....

And ironically guys like Davis, Barnes, and McAdoo arguably saw their stock drop after their first year. Probably were better off ditching Chapel Hill earlier in their careers. As for Tyus and Justise, I don't think anyone had them leaving after their first year: it speaks more to how they were used and how they subsequently performed in big games that launched them into their respective draft selections.

Another Gary Gem- "Yep Oz, those are unacceptable numbers.
And I've said this before, even though it's 5-against-8 every time we play those grabbing, holding, flopping, cheating f***s... and as much as I love Roy, he let the 2 games this season get away."

Nothing like complaining about the refs in August!

*Hahahahaha! The same Gary that said Berry was not only the best pg in his class (Tyus...anyone...anyone)...but that it wasn't even close, and that Berry was far superior to Tyus.
And if that wasn't enough...even after Tyus leading the Blue Devils to a championship, and sealing himself as a Duke legend (as a Freshman and a 'won and done'), Gary still said that if Roy had given Berry the opportunity to play as many minutes as Tyus he would have proven him right! That's unreal!
So, I'm not sold on Gary's ability to grasp reality.

Somehow Berry, who couldn't even start on the same exact UNC team last season, is better than another guy in his class that garnered All-American recognition? Boy, Gary has lost whatever marbles he had left

I actually think Berry is going to be pretty good and I thought Roy should have played him more. Having said all of that- it doesnt help at all defend his moronic and off base comments about Tyus and now Melo, like dude- they both VASTLY OUTPLAYED your guy....get over it.

P.S. Since it's Gary, i'm sure the Refs had something to do with it.
