I'm not sure if that's 100% true or not. K did say he was going to be done, but he did have people begging him to stay.

I wish he could do it for another 30 years if it meant listening to UNC fans whining about it. Six years ago they never wanted him to quit.

I might be wrong but I seem to remember hearing somewhere that Coach K hadn't planned coaching Team USA past 2012 but Jerry Colangelo convinced him to coach through the 2016 Oympics

I had never gone to their board before but just had to see true delusion for myself. Some guy named Arshadali had quite the doozy. I didn't quote the entire post but the end part was the funniest.

Everybody can't and will not go to duke and or kentucky. We will get our share of talent and continue to win, because "We Are The University of The People" .

Got to love that last part. I guess it is kind of true since they just hand people degrees willy nilly.

Boy the anger over there right now is beyond boiling! Between Gary, Chapelheeled and a few others just dismissing actual facts, making up their own and passing it off as facts, they're a special group. The name calling and pity party on how it's not fair is at a fever pitch. Those guys need to take a few plays off and relax.

Haha, them talking about fairness is an absolute joke. So it was fair that schools across the country had players in class while UNC players got to work on their game or party while they were "attending" class? An advantage that they had for at least 20 years, if not more? Please, cry me a river

That entire thread on javin commiting is solid gold. Anyone who hasn't been over there to see it needs to. Wow what a bunch of whiners. Someone needs to point out to the guy who said anyone could win a gold medal that the great Larry brown couldn't do it

Problem with that board is they hardly hardly ever come after one of their own. It's like the old seinfeld episode with the van buren boys- "he became so disillusioned that he had to join us." Same thing could be said for that board.

No doubt that thread is gold, but so is the one about Bam. How they have the audacity to suggest there's $henanigan$ going on with him apparently 'leaning' to NC$U is beyond me. And it'$ cute how they continue to imply that it'$ money which i$ winning him over.

For close to 20 years there was major shenanigans happening at UNC. Major. But they continue to insist everybody else plays with a stacked deck. It's certainly comical. I think they're so blind to their stupidity they're unaware anymore of how stupid they look. That's the only reasonable explanation.

And don't get me started on Gary-7. He's a clown. That's one poster who I hope never stops sharing his wisdom, because 1) I love hearing him talking about his coaching mafia, and 2) the idiots over there just eat it up.

The great prognosticator Gary said he "guarantees" (that is the exact word that he used) that guys like Okafor and Parker don't attend Duke if K is not involved in USA basketball. So I guess if you ignore Dawkins, Alarie, Laettner, Hurley, Hill, Brand, Battier, Carawell, Maggette, J. Williams, Boozer, Redick, S. Williams, Dunleavy, Deng, Duhon, among others, who were all high school AAs that he landed before ever signing on to coach the USA team, maybe the Great Gary has a point.

In response to Denn, Gunslinger on Coach K being asked to remain as Team USA Coach by Colangelo:

"But to cite what Collangelo stated publicly is the easy way out. Do you really think that if K forced the issue that Jerry is going to come out publicly and say "well, we were going to go in a different direction but Mike really made a big stink about it and...well..., he has won for us so we just relented."? Do you think he'd say that? Look, I know you have folks over there at DI dumbing down your board but I took you for one of the brighter ones. I may have to rethink my assessment abilities."

1) Apparently quoting what the head of USA basketball said publicly is the easy way out, while concocting a total conspiracy theory is the nobler hard way.

2) Our board is dumbed down? Because we accept reality, rely on facts, and point out how utterly stupid they are on a consistent basis?

3) Don't even get me started on his "assessment abilities." @denniden has likely taken a dump that is more insightful than gunslinger.

Quote from acarter0277 about Giles

"Duke has Ingram, Jeter, Obi and Vrankovic. They have commits from Tatum and Delaurier. Word on the street is that they are all in on Gabriel. Now this doesn't account that Ingram and/or Jeter could go pro, but that's quite a log jam in the front court. Does Giles look somewhere else?"

Considering he's the #1 player in the class, he'll start no matter where he chooses to go and anyone that thinks that just because there are a lot of players at his position at Duke will be the reason that he wouldn't choose Duke is beyond delusional.

Regarding #1, it's just another one of their theories. They have many. K faked his back injury, K intimidates the refs, they ignore the facts of the Corey Maggette 'scandal', Lance was getting free bling and Duke is covering it up, and now K powered his way into keeping the USA gig. And they believe every single one of them....along with many more.

As for #2, I'll admit this thread is very dumbed down. We have the posters at THR to thank for that.

Lastly, I can't speak to denniden's bowel movements. :D

One thing that bothers me is how all the Coach K haters out there who constantly cry about Coach K's position with USA basketball, fail to acknowledge that he doesn't coach the kids. He is the men's senior national team coach, not the U-18 coach. How come no one ever complains about Miller (or Donovan while at Florida) who actually coaches the kids.

I always read that Coach K has unlimited access to recruits, thus the advantage. Is this true? I don't believe Coach K spends his free time at the U-18 events, stalking recruits. He doesn't have to, he is Coach K.

Denn made the mistake of asking a legitimate question and instead of answering it, he was told that he must not be in the know if he didn't know why the UNCheaters assume certain things. It was classic circular reasoning.

Denn: please support your theory -> THR: if you don't already know then you're not an insider and we won't tell you -> logical conclusion: stuff is made up. There's the story and "the story", haha.

GSD and DSouthr came after you Denn. Nice work.

I wasn't looking for them to come after me, though it was most likely inevitable. I was only looking for proof. I have not been back in a while to see what has been written. I am guessing it is good stuff though. Still, I am not looking to start anything, just looking for some proof of their accusations. If they can't/won't provide me with that......what is one to believe?

uhhh that you and your sources aren't nearly as qualified or knowledgeable as they and their sources. You need to prove, they do not. case closed.

DSouth with a sad dose of irony:

"I realize that fairness to many means very little when comparred to success no matter the cost but I am just not built that way. Winning is not the only thing, winning fairly is..."

A 20+ year academic scandal benefiting thousands of athletes is considered "winning fairly?" Good lord, it's really depressing knowing there are people this dumb in the world.

I read the responses to me, including dsouthr's reply. I have decided not to respond any more because we will just go around in circles and it is not a back and forth that will end civilly.

However the whole fairness thing dsouthr brought up is funny. I suppose it is fair to set up shill classes for 20+ years for the athletes. I suppose there is a reason why that is fair and the Duke coach leading the national team isn't. Interesting logic.

They also believe that Hansbrough never flopped or traveled. No Tar Heels flop or travel and truly are convinced that every game they have ever lost is because of bad officiating. OFC

It really is best not to post over there. No one ever gets anywhere at all. Just let them post over there whatever they please and we can do them same here. But it is your choice and you have your reasons to say what you feel needs to be said. But other than self satisfaction what does it get you. OFC

Those in the know are aware that it was football and women's basketball that had all the athletes cheating. Everyone knows UNC basketball players don't get any special treatment.

STEAT with an absolute GEM: I think one of the reasons people don't like K is that he is a front runner. When things go wrong he sends his assistant coaches out to take the heat. He is so pissed that he does not show up to be interviewed when Duke has had a poor first half. When was the last time K allowed himself to be interviewed at halftime of a game where Duke is trailing at halftime? A few years ago when Duke got drilled in an NCAA tourney game he didn't show up for the post game press interview and the excuse was that he was sick. This is the stuff that make people hate the man. He no doubt will go down as one of the best ever, but the "few" times things are going bad he has a completely different attitude. He actually allowed himself to be interviewed at halftime during the Final Four last year. Yep, you guessed it, Duke was leading at halftime and millions were watching. Why be selective on the halftime interviews? If it was a regular season game against Clemson, you will not see K for that halftime interview. He picks his spots and nothing is wrong with that. On the other hand, this is the type of inconsistent behavior that ticks people off. Don't lose any sleep hoping he will change...Not gonna happen....

UHHHHH, he NEVER takes halftime interviews- up, down, tied whatever- during the NCAAT he is required and did so in all 6 games last year. Newsflash Duke was tied at the half of the National Championship game.

And if that is what you're grasping at to say that this is one of the reasons people "HATE" the man, you're absolutely crazy. And a front-runner? Did you just not see his first few years in Durham? Did you miss that the USA team lost big with Larry Brown before he took over? Did you see that they came in 3rd before they could win it all in Beijing?

Holy SMOKES.

He is probably one of the fans that thinks that every coach at every school leaves their walk-ons on the floor after being embarrassed on national tv and heading straight to the locker room without them. Yeah Roy has a great post-game loss attitude. (Haiti)
