New UK coach Will Stein and his staff signed 33 transfers and watched 22 former scholarship Wildcats exit via the transfer portal. Mark Stoops signed a similarly sized transfer class before his final season as coach, but that makeover took place over two different transfer portal windows separated by four months.

There’s been rumors that Stein had at least a gentleman’s agreement with Lanning if not actually some kind of clause in his contract that he wouldn’t take Oregon players with him on the way out. Something like that definitely seems plausible because not getting a single player from Oregon would be pretty odd otherwise.

As far as filling out the roster, I honestly expect we’re about done. Maybe we take a look at a player or two who hits the portal from Indiana or Miami, but with no spring portal window this year, the options are pretty limited and would probably only be for spots deep down the depth chart. I expect we may also sign a couple of freshmen on the late signing day for depth, but any big splashes there probably aren’t likely either. I think we have all of our intended top level contributors now.

Any word on how he compares to his brother. Looked shorter on the field than his Heisman and NC winning brother. He's also a freshman. Seems if he is transferring out that he believes he doesn't have a shot at starting there....
I thought it was his brother at first, really weird timing, but Indiana is on Many top QB prospects and his chances probably dwindled to nothing after this run.

Yep. They look nearly identical with the helmets on. I thought it was his brother also. That was a pure "wtf" moment for me. We were talking about where he'd go in the draft last night, and then I see "he's transferring...?!?!" LOL

Had no idea his brother was also a QB

Wow. That would be pretty impressive

If hes going to capitalize on the title, he has to do it now. I think he'd be best served to negotiate a HUGE RAISE and stay at IU, but coaches and egos.... you just never know
If it’s me I take my *** to the NFL and relax. Let them two years go down in history. Kind of like I wish Saban left after his last championship but he tried to come back one more time. Just go out on top. What’s his record in two years? Lost what 1 or two games? Go relax collect a check. Be a legend at Indiana. Don’t risk coming back and not even making the playoffs because I don’t see any of this bull sh it happening again…

The bamas texas georgias Michigans won’t allow this to continue. Idc about anybody saying Mark Cuban this and that. He’s a small fish compared to what these other schools like Texas have. He just happens to be famous af.

I am not sure Stein would need that clause. He seems like a really loyal good guy. His response to signing the most recent class was really good to hear. He was not gong to send kids packing on the eve of signing day as that would be a jerk move. I think taking players from his former school might be seen as that, too.

Mendoza does not want to back up Hoover but wants to get into a starter role and hone his skills. It’s a good call. I kind of expect him to drop out of the P4 to secure a starter spot. Would be odd to go backup another P4 starter. Not sure what P4 teams other than Duke are scrambling for a QB. Maybe he goes to Duke?

Seems an odd agreement. What if some kid from Oregon really wanted to go to UK?

I think we all need to realize how bad the roster was under Stoops. I think we had a very good portal and a good start to Stein’s tenure, but expect us to be near the bottom if not last place in SEC predictions for the season. We’re going to have to earn the respect… and that’s probably fair considering I think we’ll be the only SEC team that will have a coach that’s never been a head coach for a single game. I could be wrong about that though.

And yet 15 portal exits from UK went to other P4 schools, some known for football, like Ole Miss, LSU, and UGA.

That makes no sense to me. Poaching your forming school i one thing, but if there are Oregon players who are already in the transfer portal why would he be restricted form signing his former players who were leaving Oregon anyway??

I’m not saying the roster is loaded or anything, but the team did compete pretty well physically against both Texas and Ole Miss, so it isn’t like it was the roster when Stoops took over…

so, again, not disputing it can’t be upgraded, but why do you think it was awful?

Will we have enough players to field a complete team if we don't take some more? As it stands, it appears we aren't even going to have anywhere near 85 scholarship players, much less the new 105 we're supposedly going to.

Cignetti’s contract is structured where he is guaranteed to be 1 of the highest paid coaches in CFB. Has some form of escalator clause. I highly doubt he is going anywhere and why would he? Talk about job security.

Cig appears to be one of if not the best game coach in college ATM. If he keeps hitting on portal guys he will not slow down. IU has plenty of money to compete.

Well he’s proven. I can’t even go against what you said. I just don’t see it happening. Do I see Indiana being good as long as Cig is there? Yes. Not 16-0 national champs. Maybe 9-3 from now on.

I doubt they go 16-0 again but I can easily see 2 loss teams making the CFP a few times. He could be Saban like if he continues to hit talent in the portal. He’s got the program at the top already and a foundation now.

Where do you see UK filling out its roster? Was anyone surprised we didn't have a few from Oregon transfer here?
Absolutely thought we’d get two at minimum. Maybe respect for his coach but that would only go so far with me if I’m trying to build a playoff team that has to play an SEC schedule. Anyway.

I heard he was gonna be even better. Maybe that’s a sign cig is on the move.
We all heard that from his brother. lol. He still will be pretty good I’m sure but they didn’t bring in Hover for him to not play. Cig will retire there now I’m sure unless he pulls a Bobby Knight
