Let’s be fair. Hiring at Temple and BC is a different animal than at Penn State.Given his track record of coaches he has hired at his three AD jobs (Temple. BC, and now PSU) his coaching choses have been underwhelming. Maybe he'll surprise with this hire. It better not be Rhule.
Alignment!Awesome podcast. It looked like JF and Kraft were on the same page from the outside but it seems like that hasn't been the case for awhile now
I'm not all for paying big money to bring in unknown quantities, so if that's Kraft's approach, I don't particularly like it. But on the other hand, Franklin could not develop players. I can't say anyone on the current team has improved since they arrived on campus. That's on Franklin.
The only fun they had last year was Tyler Warren and the two running backs. The year before we were one of the worst teams in the country in terms of explosive plays.Another point that stuck out to me during TS press conference was that he wanted to bring fun back. Didn't give a sense how far back it goes, but from their play on the field, it's probably from the beginning of the season.
Well I’m not really interested in a coach that just does what others tell him to do eitherThis isn’t the first instance of Franklin being at odds with others opinions or decisions...
It’s worth watching this video from Stephen A Smith, especially if you feel Franklin was wronged.
I honestly think it's more the first half of what he said then it was the issue in big games. Franklin has beat the drum many times about things that were lacking at PSU. Kraft and Neeli helped get a lot of that done. Then you get a massive investment to bring back lots of players for 2025, so the boosters are also helping out more than usual. And then UCLA and NW happen? You can't ask your bosses for a ton of stuff and sh*t the bed with your worst performance in 5 years after they give you what you asked for. At a minimum you have to maintain the status quo, which would have been 10-2 with losses to Oregon and OSU. The loss to UCLA had some intangibles that maybe you make excuses for if you're in the mood for excuses... cross country, new staff made it hard to prepare, Oregon hangover, etc. But then the team looks unmotivated AGAIN at home vs. Northwestern. There were no excuses for that one. Now it's clear that the coach lost the team, they are no longer motivated to play. Sprinkle in some weird coaching decisions like continuing to play Singleton over Kaytron on key downs, still not giving Howard and Denmark a shot when your WRs aren't showing anything. This combo was impossible to come back from, Kraft probably decided then that Franklin was done after this year. The toxic fan environment in the stadium may have accelerated it to an immediate firing, as letting that continue for the rest of the year would have been crazy.Never been a big Stephen A fan, but it's hard to argue with his message. The record tells the tale.
