I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already. Will be shocked if he doesn’t have a raise by the start of fall training camp

Maybe we should have a coach better than prime before we make fun of him.

😞

I remember many years ago, coming off the golf course to an ice cold Yuengling!

James is about 15th highest paid college HFC. If I recall, the wisdom here has been "he needs to win more considering what "we" pay him.
So as long as PSU finishes this year in the top 15, there will be no bitching about the coach. Right?

I’d cut his deal to 5 years at $11M per in a second.
His buyout stands at $56,666,667.00. He won't sign a deal unless it extends his current 7 year guarantee.
For all the garbage he takes from the peanut gallery, his last extension was primarily wrapped around more money for assistant coaches.
I believe that funds utilized to keep AK and bring in JK may have been a temporary substitute for what appears to be a logical extension.
It would be hard to deny that when Franklin leaves, his successor will find a much better situation than what he (Franklin) inherited.

“15th is right, and we should pay him accordingly. Now, why the f*ck doesn’t he win more, for us?”

I just dislike being locked into a guy for 7 years and owing him every cent he has coming.

7 years is an eternity in CFB. Even great coaches fall off or burn out.

I don't disagree. However, it appears to be SOP, with the better college coaches today.

Why? He's only finished in the top 5 once in 11 years.

True, but something to be said for consistency, no embarrassing program issues, players are performing in the NFL, record is very good, etc. If we were still in the four team playoff era, I wouldnt move on his contract. In this era, he’s worth it.

In that case increase his bonus for winning the BiG, making the playoff, and winning a NC. Performance based.

Ideally, yes. But if and until they get rid of these ridiculous contract lengths/buyouts, just not realistic.

"We" can't give Franklin more money. I can't afford one more cent. In addition...we deserve better.

James does a good job and IMO he's a great fit for PSU. Unfortunately, no one can satisfy the all knowing BWICAC.

We ought to pay nurses more and coaches and athletes less
Sounds good but it's not a uniquely American problem. Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest paid athlete in the world raking in $260 million last year. Meanwhile nurses in the U.S. are paid better than they are in most parts of the world.

What's unique in America is the money given to COLLEGE athletes.

Not to mention if we pay nurses more, then we’ll have a gazillion unemployed nurses sitting home complaining they can’t find a job…kind of like years ago when everybody and their brother/sister were getting teaching degrees and couldn’t find a job.

Last season was very exciting to watch. Lots of really positive stuff happening now. Just going to enjoy it. Not gonna nitpick and complain. Nobody is guaranteed anything. The product is really high quality. It feels good again.

I mean, they earn it. Until tickets and the networks we watch games on are free, they’re being paid to play.

It's unique in America because grown men obsessing over college athletics is unique to America. It's unique in America because grown men's obsession over college athletics uniquely results in money flowing freely surrounding these college athletes' exploits. It's unique in America because all this money being tossed about freely surrounding these college athletes' exploits was, unique to America, being withheld from the athlete themselves.

Not gonna nitpick and complain?! Then what are you doing here?

You need to be militantly anti-BoT, anti-Franklin, anti-college athletes being paid, anti-ref, anti-criticism of coaches, anti-PSU or fervently pro-JoePa cult ... and nitpick or complain about anything that doesn't fit into that narrow mindset ... or your life will be empty and meaningless.

Do other countries have college athletics? In my experience, Academic based sports teams is pretty much only found in America. If you want to play sports you go to an athletic club.

How many games have nurses won for us? Are nurses scoring touchdowns for us?

Let’s please put things into perspective.
If we pay nurses more, next your going to want to pay firefighters too... in most of Pennsylvania you volunteer for the right to run into a burning building to save me. We can't change that.

Running into a burning building and saving lives doesn’t win us games. It’s all about priorities.

Yeah, we need to pay retirees more!
SS trust fund is running dry. Paying retirees more exacerbates the problem.

Healthcare costs are through the roof. Paying nurses more makes that problem bigger too.

It already costs a few thousand dollars for a family to attend a PSU football game. A $700 million stadium remodel + Paying players will make attending a game more expensive.

Bottom line: We're screwed!
