Words and phrases Coach Failure will say, perhaps multiple times

1) Obviously (Everyone needs to take a drink, every time he utters the word)

2) At the end of the day

3) I understand. The results are ....

4) College football is a business

5) I will always be about the players

6) I take responsibility

7) We worked really hard

8) There's a lot of noise out there

9) Yeah, Um. I need to watch the tape

10) There's a ton of different dynamics in college football, right now.

11) We (were) all dealing with the same thing(s)

12) Embrace

13) Relationships

14) To me

15) Family

Franklin-speak has all the markings of a really early drinking game. If you strictly adhere to the rules, you'll be drunk by the end of the segment...obviously.

This is a smart PR choice for Franklin. I think he lands on his feet at a pretty good destination. Wishing the best for him.

You are correct in that it is a “PR choice for Franklin”. However, it’s a terrible move just for that reason. Franklin’s persona and image is that of self promoting sales person. By agreeing to appear on College Game Day, Franklin is following a familiar script to sell, sell, sell. Franklin wants to change the narrative away from his poor record against top competitors. His actions are so predictable.

What's the over/under on how many excuses he offers?
I don’t think he’s going to say anything. He’s going to want a job pretty soon so he just needs to get in front of the camera quickly and come off as appreciative and civil.

“Respect for Pat Kraft…love my guys in that locker room…understand the decision that was made…we’ll move on from here and see what’s next…nothing planned right now…blah blah blah.”

I’d rather have my teeth pulled than watch him bluster on about nothing like in every single one of his press conferences. Watching Terry Smith this week actually answer questions truthfully and thoughtfully has been a nice change.

Franklin is a smart guy. He will try to be contrite and accountable. I think he wishes things had played out differently here.

Take your lumps, learn from them and move on with life. He could be coaching again very soon.

Yup. Whether he feels that way or not isn’t the point. This isn’t a scoop for ESPN to learn what happened behind the scenes or to hear what Franklin does next, it’s just necessary PR to set him up for the next gig.

If I were Pat Kraft, I'd make sure that I have the ability to get in front of a camera on a national stage quickly, should there be a need to counter any negative statements that could possibly be made. Like maybe in the booth right before PSU v Iowa.

I'm not saying I think he will need to, as I don't think Franklin will say anything negative, but I would make sure the option is available to protect PSU, if necessary.

A guy who fired his OC in the middle of the season certainly can’t go on TV and ***** about being fired himself for also doing an obviously horrible job this season.

I disagree. Kraft had his moment at Monday's press conference. Engineering more publicity moments on national TV would raise more issues than it solves, IMO.

Move on. Franklin will do what he does and hopefully he is smart enough to not burn bridges. He needs to own up to his blunders over the last 6 months. Learn from it and move on. He’s got one chance. Good luck.

His PR guy wrote his talking points already. This will be political James politicking for a new job. I won't be watching.
Maybe Kraft should have consulted with a PR expert before issuing his press release and holding his press conference.

Doesn’t he have a contractual obligation to get a new coaching job and mitigate damages? You critics are more than predictable and ridiculous.

Kraft has already made a fool of himself. Probably not a great idea.

How many freaking times does Franklin need to say it was 100% on him.

I think he will be a lot classier than his treatment by fans/admin was.
James will conduct himself with class. As the saying goes, one person's trash is another person's treasure. James took this program from national irrelevancy to the threshold of excellence. He simply could not get over the hump. Would he eventually? Unlikely, He was not a great in-game coach and professional evaluator. Given that he himself was an OC his inability to hire a capable OC is a head scratcher (the exception being Moorhead), He will be scooped up faster than many think. I would like to see him in Gainesville and what he can do with the Gators. In talent rich Florida his recruiting chops will take him a very long way.

Think the interesting part will be the type of questions asked. After spending years focusing on the negatives in regards to Franklin’s results in big games, will ESPN ignore that subject.

I expect a generally non antagonistic spot where Franklin will be cordial and seen in a good PR light.
