Slightly off topic, but I didn't think another thread was necessary.

Thoughts? Interested in thoughts as I prep for November 2024.

My suggestion is to not over think it. When I joined @rudedude and @MaconNitt at their Maryland tailgate, they had a buddy (S) who brought some craft whiskey from Montana, as good as it gets.

When it comes to top lists, I refer to Fred Minnick. Dude has trustable bona fides as opposed to random youtube personalities (not saying Mash and Drum are rando's).

from Wikipedia:

Fred Minnick is an American wine and spirits writer. Minnick began professionally writing about wine and spirits in 2006. He helped found Bourbon+, which covers the bourbon industry.[1][2] Since 2013, Minnick has worked with the Kentucky Derby Museum to present the popular Legends Series of Bourbon.[3] Minnick wrote Whiskey Women: The Untold Story of How Women Saved Bourbon, Scotch & Irish Whiskey (Potomac, October 2013).[4]

He's also been a judge many times at the world spirits competition.

With that all being said, and to the broad point about Blantons being this mythical creature, the more bottles I obtain from Minnick's top-100, the more I realize Blantons while nice, isn't this magical juice ESPECIALLY at secondary prices. My current bottles I like better than Blantons (In no particular order):

Makers Mark woodfinishing series BRT-02
Midwinters Night Dram act 10
Elijah Craig Toasted
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (C923)
Larceny Barrel Proof (C923)
Heaven Hill BiB
Russels Reserve 13 year

Elijah Craig Toasted is tremendously underrated by most people who drink bourbon.

100000%. SUCH a damn good pour. my routine on drinkin nights is start with EC-T or Eagle Rare (more mild pours) for my first few OZs, to open up my palette, then work into the higher proof stuff. Most nights, I find myself starting with EC-T vice eagle rare.

Now that I type it, I'm realizing that EC-T is quickly becoming my go-to

Price aside, good luck getting any of those bottles, unless you have a high-end dealer with connections.
A quick search turned up the "cheapest" bottle of Michter's 10 Bourbon at $300...way above the $170 MSRP from the video. For anything not mainstream, the general rule is double the MSRP and go from there.

Funny how everyone is into bourbon and especially bourbon 'collecting' these days. My cousin, who was a 'craft beer' bro forever (even making his own at home), is suddenly into bourbon and was showing me some of his purchases when I visited recently. Nothing crazy - about 8 bottles, but I noticed behind the door to his office was a 90% full bottle of Remy Martin XO. I asked about it and he said, 'I'm not a fan - you want it?', so yeah - happy to have the XO on the bar (noting I still prefer Hennessey XO)......

If you like act 11, hopefully you can find act 10 or earlier. Talk is 11 went downhill. But for a port finished rye I’m very impressed with high west’s offering.

smokewagon single barrel is also one of my favorites. Haven’t tried UCUF or uncut the younger but heard great things about them.
