I'd refer you to a KY expert - Damaris Phillips, but I don't like her recipe. Plus she's become a vegetarian and isn't as cute and chunky anymore. Stick to the Brown Hotel version.

Still...

KY expert?

Is there a Philly wet Roast Beef sandwich that stands out - like in Chicago? Or Buffalo? Or Arby's?

I will take the Reuben or the Cheesesteak. The rest just don't do anything for me.
I like those two also but the Spanish sandwich with the Jamon on crusty bread with cheese & tomatoes interests me. Have you ever had a Mexican Torta sandwich? Not on the list but I like those.

Think they missed out on a good old fashioned BLT; otherwise good list. Montreal Smoked Meat and Reuben are similar, so bump one of them. Of all of them, the lobster roll is the most about ‘vibes’ - feel like you need a blueberry beverage of some sort and a lighthouse nearby to properly enjoy. Best I’ve ever had is The Lobster Roll in Montauk (same place as in ‘The Affair’). Ran into Josh Brolin there.

There are lots of good places on the Maine coast to get a great lobster roll. The best are the simplest - lobster, roll, and butter. no mayo or filler required.

Yeah, BLT with summer tomatoes is satisfying.

Amusing that Goose and Geese are both playing.
I would never have imagined Public Enemy at a folk fest.

Berrigan's Italian subs is missing as well. From Williamsport and Bloomsburg, Pa.

Antifragile in SC... their cheesesteak had one there last week and it was excellent..
Really tried to give it a chance. Way too much pepper. The meat is solid quality, the roll is solid. The cheese selection? ( grilled onion, peppers, sauce, mushrooms options unavailable ).

again, roll and meat are good quality, the rest is meh.

Yeah, didn’t mean to be so rough, I apologize. IMHO, the best cheese steak in State College is at Local Whiskey. Shaved Ribeye, great roll, variety of cheese, etc.

I do enjoy going to Antifragile to have a beer and a sandwich with my neighbor. I just ask for it the way I want it.

The vibe is certainly one of the best in town.

I watch a lot of YouTube vids on cooking. Josh Weissman had a "tournament" for sandwich's across the world (field of 12).

He has the Vietnamese Banh Mi vs. Philly cheese steak in the finals.

Not a big fan of Banh Mi; wouldn’t make my top 20. One that should be on the list though is a popular German fest sandwich - the schwenkbraten. It’s a marinated grilled pork sandwich usually served with grilled onions on a roll (doesn’t need anything else). Maybe @kgilbert78 has had one….?

I will say the German by way of Turkey doner kebab is unrivaled post pub fare. Place I loved in Heidelberg topped with hot sauce and jalapeño. Tremendous.

Nope--haven't had that. I do like Bahn Mi's tho. And doners. I miss doners.

Reuben and Cheesesteak should be top 10. No way does a chip butty belong in the top 20. A PB&J has more taste.

And while not best in the world, some honorable mentions from Japan:

Yakisoba Pan

It's basically the delicious stir fried noodle dish yakisoba (sweet/savory/spicy) on a hot dog bun. Can add whatever proteins you like. When I lived in Japan, yakisoba was my go to.

Tamago Sando (Egg Sandwich)

These are staples at convenience stores and are basically egg salad sandwiches minus the mustard, bacon, lettuce,, etc. It's just eggs, Japanese mayo (Kewpie - which is the best and easy to find in US), some salted butter, and Japanese milk bread. Very satisfying.
