Never met the man. But my Dad idolized him, and that's enough for me. My Dad - best hitter ever - Williams. Best ballplayer ever - Willie Mays. I tend to agree.

I met him and Curt Gowdy at a Congressional Reception for hunting and fishing legends. I was a 23 year old punk there for the free food and asked them about fishing and just listened. Gowdy’s voice was like if syrup had a western twang if that makes any sense.
