Absent from school excuses I’ve actually seen/heard from families:
1. He’s got the gurge
2. He snapped his Achilles (showed up the next day without crutches, a boot, or a limp)
3. Father is being sent overseas with the Army reserves (father continued to drop the girls off for the rest of the school year)
4. Just didn’t want to come to school

35 years in the classroom I heard them all. Still the #1 excuse…. Mom told be that her son could not make it because he was to tired from “ pleasuring himself!” She said he had Penthouse and Hustler magazines all over the floor of the bathroom! I should have sold the story to Larry David

People I work with now are too young to know MASH, but it always reminds me of the episode where Blake is going through Klinger’s file of excuses he’s used to try to get sent home. “Mother sick, father dying. Father dying, grandmother sick. Grandmother died, mother and father are dying.” I’m always impressed by the ability to come up with creative reasons not to get you kid an education.

I had a teacher’s aide during this kids Sr. Year. She was a knockout. She would work with me every 3rd period. So, she would come into the room, usually a minute late since she was coming from the other side of the building. As soon as she would come in, he would scope her out for a minute or so and then, without fail raise his hand asking to use the restroom! I always said “ Go ahead!” Who am I to stand in the way of true love!! The o/u on this kid using the toilet was 5x a day!

Part of the reason they don't work is the tech is so outdated. Craig was fantastic. The only Bond I didn't care for was Timothy Dalton. Not sure why......

4. Rochester (Jack Benny Show)
5. Buddy Sorrell (Dick van Dyke Show)

Note: Cosmo Kramer (Seinfeld) maybe should have been #5, but I thought Rochester was a great foil to Jack Benny.
