Such a bizarre story…

I'm actually surprised, the podcast didn't do anything to sway me. She seemed to take a very biased viewpoint and give the benefit of the doubt to him at every turn. But if the prosecutors themselves recognize Brady violations, he's due a new trial. Wonder if they'll bother trying.

There was a follow up podcast that focused a lot more on his trial more specifically and the various issues there. But, this article does a nice job listing the various inconsistencies and lack of evidence surrounding his conviction. I have no idea what to think - but, the fact that his DNA wasn't found at the crime scene is concerning. Weridest of all is that when asked to recount even the slightest memory of the day in question - Adnan could not. He couldn't recall where he was, who he was with, etc. This all noting a witness placed him at the school library when the crime was to have occurred....

Baltimore seems to have issues with DNA and their cases. I read this book a few years ago about Kirk Bloodsworth, who was the first death row person exonerated by dna

I mean, police work in general seems to have issues....

  • In HBO series The Case Against Adnan Syed, it was said additional DNA samples taken from Lee’s body and car, as well as fingerprints taken from the car’s rear-vision mirror, in 2019, didn’t match Syed.
  • In addition to new evidence, Maryland State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said that the prosecution may have failed to disclose information to Syed’s defense – including the fact that investigators failed to rule out two additional suspects.
  • One of the suspects was convicted of attacking a woman, and the other was convicted of serial rape and sexual assault, the State’s Attorney said.
  • Prosecutors also did not disclose that one of the suspects sent Lee a threatening text message just before her murder, telling her ‘he would make her disappear. He would kill her.’

I doubt he is retried

Kirk came and spoke to one of my law school classes. If I’m remembering correctly, his mother passed away not long before he was exonerated. What a horrific thing to have gone through.

Thanks, I won’t pretend to know much of details, just that I found the Serial podcast frustrating to listen to because of her bias. That’s some awfully damning stuff you cite there, I’d agree with @ClarkstonMark he won’t be retried with those facts out there.

I cant say who is worse at their job here in Baltimore, the cops or the DA. I will say that recency bias tells me Mosby is probably the worst i've seen in 25 years of living near Baltimore

I agree about the the podcast having a slanted view. Definitely a weird case. I always felt he was guilty but thought there probably wasn't enough for him to be originally convicted. I hope more on the two additional suspects comes out.

The podcast was interesting, there were just a lot times where she would gloss over huge things because they were harmful to him, and it was obvious to me. I was also prosecuting at the time, so maybe I was brainwashed.
